*nix and SSD's are not the best idea at the moment until some type of Trim command is implemented. The performance hit can bring the speed down to the same as a fast HDD quite quickly without it.

Interesting. Neither my Eee (or the misses) or my Aspire one support it. That could of course be down to the drives not supporting it and not the fact Linux does(n't) support it on those machines.

only for the os / boot drive, so it doesn't have to be big..
most people use 2-3+ drives if they do music or video to help things along.
Linux has had TRIM support since Dec 2008...
