Lucy Hickman (spits), no love for her im afraid, I used to buy Zzap and when she got on board with the whole Commodore Force thing, that was it for me, sounds like she did the same over at Crash, utter self satisfying drivel

Didn't know that she went on to ruin Zzap too. Was she the editor who was constantly putting "Ed" comments into brackets in just about every sentence? That was really annoying.

The early and middle years of Crash were awesome.

Absolutely, they laid down a computer mag template that is still being copied today by the likes of Edge, etc.

What's everyone's favourite issue? I have a soft spot for my first one (Issue 21 - Oct 1985) but I think 1985's Christmas Special (24) was probably the best.

Aw, they were so close to 100 too. Sadly I imagine it would have been two of those massive cassette boxes stuck to the front featuring 8 "classics" and the mag about 18 pages long.

Re: Issue 98... The SU merge announcement seems a last minute inclusion. I cannot for the life of me recall these two pages. I guess the mag was finished and the decision made afterwards. Shame in a way despite the mag going to hell.

My memory must be getting worse? I can't remember that announcement either. I thought that The Sinclair User merge thing happened after Newfield went into liquidation and then Europress or whatever they were called picked up the rights and started publishing Crash again separately for a few issues.

Not sure why I thought it was that way around, but looks like I'm totally wrong :)

It wouldn't take much to miss that announcement. It was quite a poor ending for the magazine.

I used to get SU (mostly 'cos there were always tons of them left in WHSmiths) and I only made the connection because the Crash logo started to apear on the front cover. I flicked back through that one random issue of Crash I had bought to find it was the last one ever.

I think it was actually Future publishing (the YS crowd) that tried to buy the Crash name when Newsfield went bust.

Half-joking pieces about this appeared in both publications at the time.

I bought the last edition I think just for the games in the end.
That`s all I bought the Mags for was the free games towards the end.
Before Crash turned bad I guess.
The last issue was awful and I fell for Danny the Duster :)

I think that`s about the time I bought a Megadrive as well.
Still kept the Speccy till I got an Amiga though.
