Thanks for the list Refrenz. I'm most pleased about Everyone's a Wally and Back to Skool.

I like your subtle hints as to who created Back to Skool... ;)

wonder if they'll ever do a symbian version

now I have an n8, my old emulators like gp2x don't work with the touch screen

Just got all the new updated packs for the ipad , had to wait a bit longer than ipod users but the packs are fabulous !
  • edited May 2011
Yeah i'm really enjoying them. Thought the Nexus pack was a bit unusual but i suppose it got me playing different games.

Reckon a week friday and the next packs will be available. Wouldnt mind some 'big' names like Hewson and others.

Plus Elite did a few mobile phone games such as Paperboy/Ikari Warriors so surely they have 'contacts' with that company so they could talk to them about the Speccy versions (and others)

Another Elite game i would like to see is Critical Mass. Contacted Rod Bowkett (Dynamite Dan I and II) and told him about the Speccy app and to contact Elite so you never know.

But i must admit i'm loving the end of every month and finding out what the packs are!

You know me , i'd love a Beyond pack with LOM , Doomdarks , Psytron , Shadowfire etc

I really disliked Critical mass when it came out and to be fair i've never played it in 20 years or so , so maybe its time to give it another go . I spent a lot of time last night on Bak to skool , its still amazing .

About colour cycles in the emulator i'm not sure why you'd want to know but i'll find out anyway.

Matt - if you didn't see my PM, I've nearly finished a game that uses colour raster effects to enhance the attributes. You can try the link in my signature if you don't have the demo already.

I would love to see my original adventures (Frontier of Warriors and Missing: World of Spectrum) on there some day (if I write complete versions) but they would seem more suited to the iPad rather than the iPhone..

    (I don't have either so I couldn't tell).

Elite should try to licence Dalek Attack - with the intrest in Doctor Who at a high and with a market for games, they would sell well, especially since it's the Doctor vs the Daleks.

Personally dont think adventure games would be a big seller, perhaps 'big names' like the Hobbit but theyre still pretty tricky to play specially on the ipod as you'll need the full keyboard not just a few keys.

Be interesting to know how the homebrew games are selling, hope theyre doing well. As much as i love homebrew theres so many other companies/titles i would love to see first (Hewson/Ultimate/Elites arcade games etc)

Be interesting to see how the keyboard would work on a game like LOM etc. Need to give LOM another try, heard so many people rave about it but whenever i've played it i just havent got into it

Critical Mass was a bit of a 'marmite' game, looked great, the whole 'Dune' look and feel was good but i admit the gameplay wasnt the best ! Used to play it a lot and the later levels werent bad from what i remember. Just thought its an 'easy' one to do as its by Elite.

Roll on end of the month for the next pack of games, its great how many there are now. Over 100 games

Been playing a lot of Starquake and also giving nodes of Yesod another chance

I was just saying I'd like to see them on an iPad version sometime..

As I said, Dalek Attack would be a big seller, but there is the problem of Terry Nation's estate - they point-blank refuse to allow the Daleks to be used in any humouros situation (they blocked the use of the Daleks in the new series because they had been used in Looney Toons - Back in Action at the insistance of Steve Martin, who is a big fan and they were only allowed in the new series because he apologised for it).

Batman the Movie and/or Caped Crusader might be a good seller (Batman 3D uses the keyboard along with joystick).

Supertrux was a favourite of mine from Elite along with Overlander. Live and Let Die might do well. As I said earlier in the thread, Thundercats might be a big seller, with the new series coming, intrest is at a high.

Why not try to come up with iPad / iPhone versions of the Games Bibles books?

Funny you should say that. Been thinking of that a lot but it just depends if i can find someone to do it cheaply or to give me the 'start' code with a few reviews in and then i just do the same thing copy/paste for all the other reviews.

Just cost really, didnt lose money on the Speccy books but i'm not exactly holidaying in the Maldives every year !

But ideally i would like a single app with all the reviews in (Or perhaps one per book), i personally would love to have all of them in, have a search function and easily click on a games title to jump to the review, touch the screenshot for it to go fullscreen etc.

    Would be very cool

(And as for games yeah i would love a whole batch of Ocean games. Its a shame about all the difficulty tracking down who owns what, also i presume as its Batman for example theres other issues. We have this old 25 year old game here gathering dust in Batman and many others and it must be a right hassle to get it all sorted/legal)

As it happens, I know someone who has the start code for iBooks.. I'll have a word with them and see what I can do.

I think lOM would be great on the Iphone for that reason, I'm not impressed at all with the controls for most 'action' games and a slow paced one like LOM would be ideal for conversion.

Seems the obvious was to do it would be with an area of the screen dedicated to command buttons.

Yeah good point, could work actually. How many keys does LOM use ? Not the whole keyboard is it ? Theres a fair few keys for the Skooldaze games and that works well on iOS.

But yeah slower action games do work pretty well, i play Rebelstar a lot on my ipod, good to come back to and continue etc.

Ha ha early days yet but i must admit i'm just over the moon about making it to the final.

Did a quick search for Mike Singleton, couldnt find an address, might have to badger Martyn.C to contact him (Sure someone at RG did for the mag a while back)

Have to check with Matthew.H, as Mike Wilcox has been around a fair while you never know he might have had contacts with Mike.S back then ?

    Hi guys n gals.

Been pretty busy over the last few weeks trying to get the next update of the app sorted and i'm please to say that the iphone version is now awaiting review.

Hopefully it shouldn't be too long.

As usual we like to keep everyone guessing as to what it may contain but it's potentially our biggest update yet (quite literally) and i'm sure there will be something for everyone.

I've also finally got around to making a Facebook page for the app as I know a few of you have mentioned the whole Twitter/Facebook thing before. Steve does now do a bit of Tweeting while i'll take care of the whole Facebook side.

I've only put up the Facebook yesterday and it's in the News section at the moment on the iphone app. You can also directly link to it here:-

    http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=232928840066014

I'll add updates to it as and when applicable but feel free for anyone to join/like and post suggestions etc and i'll do my best to take them on board.

    Matt

Thanks for the update Matthew - I must say it feels like decades since the last update and I'm looking forward to seeing the latest selection of game releases.

Having recently bought an iPad, I was wondering if there are any plans to make ZXEC a universal app so people don't end up paying for the same games twice?
  • edited June 2011
    Hi,

I'm going to set the update to go live shortly so it will probably be up about 10ish as it can sometimes take a while to show up.

Also it's odd how it works as some people see it sooner than others too?

Anyway, hope you like the update it's probably our biggest one yet.

As i said in my last post i'm going to use our facebook page for the app as another way of building a bit more community around the app aside from the normal 'News' page. The facebook has the advantage of other people being able to interact/comment upload pics etc so it's definitely worth adding it.

You'll see there's now a facebook button on the main screen.

If anyone has any problems with anything just send me a post and i'll look into it asap.

As for a universal app it's a tricky one. We would have to deal with handling of in app purchases for both flavours of the app which would need exploring and then there's also the final app size issue as it would have to include both sets of gfx etc.

It is something we will consider though as soon as we can...

Personally i prefer the ipad version as there's nothing like playing the games in landscape the full size of the screen with the sharp graphics. Combined with the idaptive controls it's a winner, especially on the Matthew Smith games ;) Have you tried Jet Set or Manic that way? It's also quite fun to play some games with the speed boost on too.

Anyway got to set the app to go live and then finalise the ipad update amongst other things.

    Catch you later.

    Matt

OMG - Exolon, Pyjamarama, Zynaps, Rex!..

    Excellent update!

I have very important question though: can you PLEASE add support for iControlPad (http://icontrolpad.com) and iCade (http://www.ionaudio.com/products/details/icade)?

It would be very very nice to play on Speccy with real controller.
