Merry Christmas
Ok, for my recapitulation : In UK, the 24th december is called "Christmas Eve", then 25th december is "Boxing Day" - the day you give presents, and what is 26th december ? Do you still have holiday ? Here it is different. 24th december we call "Liberal" or "Handsome" "Evening" (my translation, I was looking for word of one, who is giving out presents) - the evening we give presents under the tree, here the presents gives "Jezisko" as "Little Jesus baby", in fact, we don't know Santa Claus, it came here just in the 90s from west, but we do not celebrate him. Then 25th and 26th we have holidays, doing nothing, just visiting families.

Pagan celebrations:
Various, but usually 24th-26th = Yuletide, with presents being given on the 25th as part of the Winter Solstice.
Christmas day is usually celebrated between February and May.
Christian celebrations:
24th Christmas Eve
25th Christmas Day (Presents day.)
26th Boxing Day
That's when you're most likely to be punched in the face by someone wearing a hood (though usually not Santa Claus).
That's everyday where I live!
i think the term box come from poor boxes or something like that.
cardboard boxes are pretty recent
:D
Hope you all get what you want from Santa! :)
Even if I was un-aware of the term "boxing day" it was interesting that Germany has the same tradition as we (Sweden), that is having the main holiday on the the 24th with presents and family gatherings. Then the 25th is more of a recovery day and is not celebrated in any special way.
Since our local time has just stepped into the 24th it is time to wrap up the final packets for the kids and then go to bed - and also a merry christmas to all of you.
bah humbug :)

So Merry Christmas to everybody :)
If you are interested how in looks in Poland:
24th
It is called Wigilia. The name comes from Latin and means awaiting (for Christ's birth). People give gifts on 24th (when first star appears in the night sky) and at midnight many people (even those who aren't much religious) go to church for a special mass called Pasterka (shephard's mass).
Animals are believed to speak in human language in the night but I haven't observed it yet :)
25thIt is called Boże Narodzenie (God's birth). You often need a rest after Wigilia then, because in many Polish houses Wigilia supper turns unfortunately into big binge ;). By church it is more important day than 24th but you don't celebrate anything at your homes.
26th
It is called simply the second day of Christmas and you don't do anything special this day.
(I'm probably be very busy until New Year, so posting this now in case I forget later.)

Going to have a great dinner round my sisters place tomorrow, it'll be packed, Mum and Dad will be there, and my neices and nephew too. My nephew is getting an XBox 360 so I'll probably have to help him 'test' the console. :-D
It's from the catholics, believe it or not - Christ's Mass is what they generally called it. This is a mistranslation; It was originally "Christ's Girth", or the celebration of the Holy Penis. Women would come from miles around and anoint it with fragrant (and stimulating) oils, and the one that got the job done was celebrated for the rest of the year.
The last gal to get that honour was "Eve", Hence "christmas eve". Christmas Day was originally "christmas Dave", after the guy that got through security.
Boxing day was all about inviting a professional fighter into your home and giving him a portion of your presents as insurance against getting the crap kicked out of you.
Happy christmas everyone!
