it was know as highschool when i was a nipper. :-P
Highschool was where the posh kids went when I was younger, most of those pussies went to Middle school after Juniors as well. WTF? England my arse! Little America more like!
Just got my eldest daughter's current school report and the contents made me want to get on the phone to the school to complain, but going to talk to the wife first before deciding what to do.
Here are a few examples of what it said:
1) Too much confidence - apparently, her group tutor is of the opinion that children should not have much confidence until they turn 18.
2) Too much self esteem - the same opinion.
3) Too delusional - Annabelle is a top swimmer, despite her disability (not having any legs) and has won many trophies and medals. There is a chance she will represent Great Britain in the Paraolympics in London 2012 but only if she wants to.
4) Show-off - I'm sure they can't get away with making comments like these. 'Belle works hard to earn her grades.
5) Relies too much on wheelchair - 'Belle can't walk too far on her prosthetics, so needs to use her wheelchair.
The group teacher also voices disapproval that she talks about using sign-language at home (as some members know, my youngest daughter is deaf) and has issued punishments to her for showing her friends how it's done. We've complained about her doing that - why punish her for showing her friends something? If it was a knife, a gun or drugs, then maybe but sign language?
Stuff like this makes my blood boil. Any ideas on what to say?
That sounds terrible. However, your wife's a teacher therefore she should know perfectly how to kick but to the best all-round effect.
When I was 13 I told my Careers teacher that I wanted to do computer programming, he laughed and gave guidance which insinuated computer programming is not for the likes of thickies like you. So I gave up, switched off and had no reason to knuckle down. I took his advice and left school to train as a painter and decorator.

My parents were both teachers, but would tend to side certainly with my second primary school teacher when she was being evil and just picking on kids in the class for abuse. Even today, they think she just had a strict reputation, despite all their kids, now adult, telling them what an indiscriminate fascist she was. However, I do know from former pupils that both my parents were very much liked as teachers. I've even been in the car when a copper stopped my Dad, but let him off a speeding ticket when he recognised him. I can't think of many of my teachers I'd do that for.
I think everyone has to appreciate that teaching is a tough gig, and too many parents don't care enough about their kids' education, and the pay is nowhere near fair. But if someone's not up to it, they shouldn't be in a position of trust with other people's kids so they need to go or be pushed.
If you get no luck with the headmaster, send that report along with a nice photograph of your kid in a wheelchair without the prosthetics and a Mr.T load of swimming awards hanging off her to your local paper.
Reporting a kid with no legs as too confident, delusional, too reliant on a wheelchair, and disruptive for teaching other kids a useful skill like sign language? I would go to the ends of the earth to make sure a teacher like that had no further contact with any kids of mine.
Unfortunately there are quite a few shit teachers floating around who can't easily be sacked without attempting remedial action over several years, so they just get fobbed off with a glowing recommendation to get them to go somewhere, anywhere, else.
that whole phoenix nights thing was funny.. BUT it resembled the name of an actual fire officer up there , and they had to make clear it was a total coincidence.
I liked the bit where he was reading out the lyrics to disco inferno and thought it was a letter , or the jokes about dogs
but back on subject..
you reminded me of must be 27 years ago.. I had an UTTER bitch of a teacher who disliked me.. why ? because I am left handed and couldn't use scissors.. first we had her for art.. then had the misfortune to have her as a form teacher..
I hope the *cough* got karma in later life for how she treated me (and maybe others ) back then. We had a uni lecturer who was also as bad, she should have got the sack but didn't.
the report in question was VERY sarcastic and totally rude. Don't know if my parents sussed it was , but were quite errm "didn't wanna cause a fuss"
so yer.. if you feel a way about it then deal with it.. as a parent you hopefully have a good idea how your kids are.. although you don't see them all the day.
I guess sport IS a big part of their life.. and maybe thats why the teacher was jealous , even as able bodied they didn't have the talent..
anyway.. you can either deal with it or not.. but years later after seeing that report I got.. I wish my parents had reported that *cough* I had as a teacher.
At our school one of the male sport teachers was 'aparently' shagging pupils as a regular occourance.
The rumours of his liasons with pupils have spanned decades, in the 1980's when I was there, in the 1990's when I left and aparently according to relatives of friends he is still at it now.
I remember when I was there is married a teacher, but got divorced after only a year, for cheating on her with another teacher.

We had a teacher like that, he was a creepy get. The rumours of him getting a BJ off one pupil were legendary. From my last school reunion a few of the girls mentioned what he was doing at our school centre in Wales. Whilst they were in the shower he would turn off the lights and go in for a quick grope.
A few years ago it was in the local paper that he'd been put away for a few years for grooming kids, and I know he's out now as another old school mate mentioned seeing him on a bus.

The carreers lot shouldn't be listened to, in general, because they are terrible at predicting the future and what they say doesn't often seem to make sense.
Although it was pretty damned obvious I was going to want to work with computers in some capacity, my report said "computers must be turned off and books must be opened" (pretty much exactly), when the computers were actually teaching me more than the actual teachers.

Ask them to cite concrete examples of these things. You know your daughter to be confident (but not overconfident) and to have self esteem (but not so much self esteem that she's arrogant), if the teachers have a different opinion they MUST be able to give specific incidents, which will allow you to judge whether they are BSing you or whether your daughter behaves much differently at school than at home.
If they can't give specific examples, game over - they are just being sour and don't like it that someone's doing well (which is the exact opposite of what a teacher should do). I suspect that given they don't like her demonstrating sign language, it probably is a case of sourness (it sounds like someone is jealous that a student is able to teach the other students something useful).

I know even these days at university level is seems that when it comes to the CV the carrers lot basicly tell you to polish up your CV so much that it becomes an out right lie.

My careers advisor said the only think I was good for was working in a biscuit factory with the mentally subnormal.

We've encouraged 'Belle to be confident and have self esteem - with her problems, it's needed, but she's not over confident. She accepts she has her flaws like everyone else. As I said, she works hard to earn her grades and doesn't take things for granted. She's well liked (not a crime) and popular. Sometimes, when the boys play football, they get her to be ref as they know she doesn't take sides.
We're seeing the teacher tomorrow and so will get to the bottom of this. I've asked her friends and when it comes to the sign language and other languages, they're the ones who ask her to teach them these things. 'Belle picked up languages very well - her mother is equally good. Personally, I think the teacher's just bitter over a younger person having better knowledge.
I'll be asking for specific examples. I know for a fact she doesn't show off on her wheelchair, doing stunts. She pefers only to use it when she has to.

I'm loosing track now?? You have two kids right, Emma (with OI) and Hermione? When did Belle suddenly appear? Do you have two kids or three?

instead of a man in an elephant costume teaching you about fire saftey, its a man in a hi-vis vest.
Keith Lard
What if it's an elephant in a hi-vis vest?
Then it's not an Elephant it's Welephant ;)
lol. :p
yeah thats him
When in boots: Welly-wearing Welephant.
Or a lycanthropic one that you just can't seem to find.
"Where's the Were welly-wearing Welephant?"
Edit: Oh yeah, about the topic. School. Not surprised. Sounds like the one I went to.
He needs a snout in that raised hand

However.... now look!!
