Go For Gold is identical to The Games Summer Edition

The entry for Go For Gold states that it is "an updated version of The Games Summer Edition, with (some?) events changed." There is no proof to support this claim - no articles in magazines, no different inlays, no alternative file names, nothing at all.

The two games are in fact absolutely identical in loading scheme, visual appearance, sound and gameplay.

Therefore I'd suggest to delete the Go For Gold reference altogether.

Except the tape exists, because I used to own one.

Yet there is no entry on the Lemon64 site or Gamebase64

If you compare the two games in TAPIR then nearly all the data differs between the two versions even if the lengths are the same.

Also, if you try substituting the levels data from one version when you've loaded the other in you get graphic corruption etc. so there's clearly some coding differences.

Yet this is not enough to state that these are two separate games. In fact, if you actually play the two titles, you won't find absolutely any difference between them. No changes nor updates to events at all.

It's rather a case of "different" releases here - a much more common situation. Go for Gold should be listed as a simple "different" release of The Games Summer Edition instead of being treated as a separate entry.

Yeah, I'd go with that. Unless anyone can show what the alleged updates are then it does just look like a "different" release of the same game. It's not like, say, Italy 1990 and Italy 1990 - Winners Edition where there's a definite update/change between the two versions.

Maybe changes were made on other platforms (e.g. Amiga, ST etc) but it wasn't deemed worthwhile or possible to alter anything for the Spec? To keep things nice and uniform on the Kixx label they probably just churned them all out with the new cover and title.

In terms of the data differing slightly then I guess this isn't all that uncommon. I'm sure things like Ghouls 'n' Ghosts differ in TAPIR if you compare the original release with the Kixx re-release even though the game should be identical, in theory. Maybe it's just down to the loading routines encrypting the data differently or something???

I guess it's as you say. However, the Kixx re-release cover available on the archive shows the old name. Maybe Kixx did a second re-release under the Go for Gold name?

That is correct and the basis why Go For Gold requires its own entry. ;)
