Blade runner - sequel and prequel

Ridley Scott's 1982 sci-fi cult classic 'Blade Runner' is to finally spawn a sequel.

Scott's sci-fi noir tale starred Harrison Ford as a bounty hunter hired to catch clones called replicants. He later finds out that he is also a replicant. It was initially a flop when released, but has gone on to be a huge cult success and is seen as one of the most influential sci-fi films ever made. There have been multiple versions (Director's Cut etc) of the movie released.

And there could now be more 'Blade Runner' films after Alcon Entertainment revealed they are in final negotiations to acquire the rights for prequel and sequels from 'Blade Runner' producer Bud Yorkin.

The company said in a statement, "This is a major acquisition for our company, and a personal favorite film for both of us.

"We recognize the responsibility we have to do justice to the memory of the original with any prequel or sequel we produce. We have long-term goals for the franchise, and are exploring multi-platform concepts, not just limiting ourselves to one medium only."

More films in the 'Blade Runner' universe COULD be a good thing, but at least there won't be a 'Blade Runner' remake.

Not yet anyway!

I'll only be interested if Ridley Scott is making them.

I really, really hope it's in 3D cos that will guarantee that film is awesome, it's a fact.

my guess is Ridly Scott and Harrison Ford will have nothing to do with them at all.

Ahhh, Bladerunner. One of the few films which has the power to make me well up every time I watch it. Truly outstanding.

I'd be surprised if it ever gets past pre-production; it's not as if there haven't been plenty of rumoured sequels before.

On the whole, I'd actually prefer a remake rather than a sequel. Perhaps they could go back to the original novel, and preferably keep the title of Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? as well. Blade Runner made some major departures from it, both in terms of plot and general philosophy, so there ought to be room to come up with something that's just as good, yet still quite different.

Will it be happening in 2019, like the original? :)

Hard to believe in replicants, flying cars and space battles in 8 years time.

Just like Atari logos all over the landscape :)

...and if Harrison ford gets plastic surgery and enough physio so he doesn't need his zimmer frame to play the part.

sounds like they are going to just use the name to make a bunch of films and possibly video games etc. as they mentioned they are not limiting themselves to one medium.

gonna be garbage what ever they do.

and 'soldier' was always the un-official sequel.

I nominate Dwayne Douglas Johnson and Mark Sinclair Vincent for the leading roles.

Nah! It's 2011, it's Sci-Fi, we need Vin Diesel and lets see? Someone he's totally not suited to, erm let's see Vin Diesel and Helen Mirren, that'll make a worthy sequel.

You may think I'm taking the piss, but that's the calibre of actors that end up in these things, someone credible but ancient, and someone laughable

Oh yes! I see now, remember to call him Vin now though or he'll sue you, unless you're related to him in which case he'll just get irate, and say "Grandma remember it's Vin". I always thought it was Marko or Marcus though?
