Does anyone remember....

the spectrum software hire club?

just found an old catalogue and news letters from 1993, the news letters had reviews and tips in it and a section called Dr Randles Clinic

I hired some software years ago off them, especially old titles I didn't have or could find anywhere. You could either pay or send stramps to the value of the game hire. Quite a good service too, quick turn around and the tapes and instructions were in very good condition, no cases just sent in a jiffy bag.

I do have some games that are "rental only" titles that are listed here

but this was pre the time green beret came out.. as my speccy knacked then.. so maybe 84-85

I also used to hire and buy games in that club in the mid 90's. Was in close contact with Joyce who ran it. When she decided to stop the service, she donated all the many games to a museum :)

Think I read about them in Micro Mart, or maybe a PC mag covering Spectrum emulation, in 93 or 94. Hired a bunch of games I'd wanted during childhood but never located (like Thanatos), though after than yer actual emulation took over.

Great idea, I remember even as a sullen, cynical sixteen year old I was excited by the arrival of the catalogue will all these legendary titles in it :)
