Captain Slog faulty?
So ... saw this game Captain Slog mentioned in another thread and thought I'd give it a try.
It's all messed up, like it's an incomplete program. I read one of the articles and it indicates that this is a crappy game ... but it's messed up beyond belief, enter a screen and it goes to the listing (well, you get the "scroll?" message but it doesn't work) and the mapping of the game is messed up.
Is it a bad snap/TZX of the game or is it a case of SQIJ 2?

Hmm, ok. I grabbed the .TZX and used SpecEmu ... and the game is messed up. Some tiles are wrong, I checked PAvero's map and the general outline is there in the game I tried but tiles were wrong and often placed wrong on-screen.
Agreed.
Moreover, I had a look at Pavero's map and I did not find anything irregular.
i.e. I can't get it to go wrong or exit to the BASIC listing as described.
I do remember that I did something out of the ordinary when I tried the game.
Using SpecEmu (same version as Alessandro above) I did have another game loaded in the emulator, and then I clicked the file outside the emulator to start Captains Log. Maybe that is why? (I would think SpecEmu would clear everything inbetween)
Not sure I will do that.
I hear terrible tales told of this emulator Spud ... apparently it's a virus in disguise that infects the user with something called "grumpiness" and it substitutes every word in the user's vocabulary with "Bah" and "Humbug" ...
Case in point ... err ... point in case ... err ...
"I hear terrible tales told", a source without substance or credability should be avoided every time...
You just called me "without substance" ... *poof* (disappears into vacuously thin air)
EDIT: This emulator is still too unpolished and feature lacking to be of any use to the general public - the author seems to be aware of this however. Let's hope it will keep being developed in the future and become another full addition to the range of available Spectrum emulators.
You are absolutely correct, this proved to be the case.
Sorry for wasting everyones time with this one.
I usually start out with the emu being in 48k mode but because I had had another game going (which apparently uses 128k) it defaulted to 128k without my knowledge. ( Yeah, likely story. -Ed )
Oblivion was every bit the same as the one I used to own, but as for Captain Slog, wheres the cool loading screen with the main character shooting the Alpha Omega logo with blue background.
Hopefully someone will locate the true original release.
The playing area is quite small as you can see in the map:

But I'm unable to turn off the last barriers and get the last items (blue prints). There are some bottles but they just reduce my energy. What as I suppose to do?
Here is my rzx and snapshot:

It comes with a scan of the cassette art to prove its the official release!
