Not adding to the pot is leeching: there's an awful lot of public infrastructure that exists to allow the people at the top live safe, comfortable lives - for example, the military to stop foreign invaders from taking it off them, roads for them to drive their Bentley Continentals on, police to discourage scumbags from invading their homes, subsidised public transport so the poor aren't all on bicycles and getting in the way of their Bentley, fire service in case their 3 million pound house catches fire etc. Using that infrastructure without paying for it is actually leeching.

    Your logic is flawed.

The pot has $100 in it.

The rich add nothing..there is still $100 in the pot
The 'poor' take $100, there is nothing in the pot.

    Who leeched the pot?

Guess what, the poor haven't contributed either BUT they also TOOK! The rich just didn't 'give'.

Your definition relies on the fact the rich do not contribute, anyone with an ounce of sense knows that is 'lefty talk' and that the rich DO contribute....What's the stat? 5% of the population pay 95% of the taxes....or something like that (the 5% being 'the rich'). Feel free to cite some evidence of rich people who contribute nothing....if they drive a Bentley for example....first they keep the guys who built the thing in employment...they pay road tax on the car, they paid sales tax on the car, they pay tax on the gas, they pay tax on the wages of the guy driving it, they pay tax on the tires they buy for it.....etc etc etc....

Pretty sure as another example the 'Prince's Trust' contributes to the good of all more than the entire membership of WOS combined.

But a least I suppose he didn't call anybody "Blaaaaaaad!!!!" during the tune :D
he comes close, I'm sure Wills didn't really say "Yo Harry I'm on dat!" when he first saw kate middleton lol

I've avoided WOS all day purely for the fact I knew there would be a thread like this. :-(

    We enjoyed the whole spectacle.

We enjoyed the fact that Will and Kate are obviously MASSIVELY in love with each other and had 2 billion witnesses watching it. What other country on the planet could hope to generate that kind of interest?

We enjoyed Harry (I think) saying that Wills' bride was "a tidy bit".

We enjoyed sharing a unique historical occasion with our children that they won't see again until they are my age at least (I was their age when Wills' dad married).

My own personal bit was when the Lancaster flew over Buckingham Palace - wow!!!

What I didn't concern myself with was how much the ****ing thing cost....

I'm amused at all the titles Prince William has. As well as being the Duke Of Cambridge, he's the Earl Of Strathearn and Baron of Carrickfergus! Imagine that, being a Baron. It's a pity Harry didn't get a new title as well; I always thought he was a bit of a Count.

But isn't your whole argument based on the rich should pay more?? (even though they already do pay more in than you)

Beanz is not a troll and has been here long enough and contributed plenty to afford him the priviledge of not having to be treated as thus.
As you say Modge, you've not been here long so please treat the longterm members with the respect they deserve.

Please keep the argument respectable and civilised.

It would be a shame to lock a thread about the Royal Wedding!!!

Well the rich spend money...all purchases have sales tax (Edit: all deemed luxury/non-essential items have sales tax), property has poll tax (or whatever it's called now). Being that their lives are generally more 'extravagant' I'd wager the pay more in those 'hidden taxes' that you do in income tax alone.

Buy a 100,000 boat, you pay 17,500 in sales tax at 17.5%...did you pay that much in income tax last year?

The rich pay more than the poor pay just in sales tax, nevermind the jobs they support, the income tax they pay (which they do pay) and all the other taxes they pay before you even get to voluntary contributions.

Btw..a troll? hmmm what's with all the name calling...that's twice now...if by that do I support my stance on the subject with valid rebuttals..then I guess I am!

Maybe you'd like to be one and give some valid rebuttals rather than name calling.

Looks like Beanz on posts here. Stay in the USA you will do well there and like I said earlier and you never commented about getting your pension from the UK. So would you reply to that now? Your out of the country and not paying National Insurance but if you come back you can get it. If you stay in the US you expect a pension from here. And VAT isnt 17.5% now.

    :)

Ah but that is where you are wrong...I DO pay national insurance under the VOLUNTARY plan...so I am contributing to the country and have not lived there for 14yrs!

Can I ask how much you voluntary contribute? You seem to expect the rich to do it so why don't you go ahead and set the example?

As for the sales tax, oh yes...what is it now..20%.....so they pay 20k in sales tax on one 100k boat....did you pay that much in an entire year? (didn't really help your point).

Why do I need to voluntary contribute I live here. You have no idea about this country do you. 14 years of America and you still know about here. No I dont think so. Like I said, you say what you like and thats the way it is on this site. So carry on say what ever your more American than British.

    Who said anything about 'need'?

Did you miss the word 'voluntary'...if you feel the rich should voluntarily pay more (clearly they are already paying the legal requirement or they would be in jail would they not). Then lead by example and VOLUNTARILY contribute more yourself too before 'expecting/wanting' other to.

Now, you didn't answer my question, I answered yours....did you pay 20k in tax last year?

As for 'saying what I like'....have I said anything 'bad' yet?..or do you deem disagreeing with you and dissecting your 'points'....bad'?

Actually, they do - I work with quite a few dead people who I have to prepare for the mortuary, and those little pockets come in very handy for things like valuables etc.

Oh yes, before I forget - you're missing an apostrophe in there.

Beans do you ever listen to anyone else exept you own opinion? The Rich do NOT pay the correct amount of tax because they either pay ?1000s to accountants or have off shore banking so they pay zero in your friends words. And if you want to comment in the future dont pick and choose what you want to disagree with. But I will just say this again. You havnt lived here for 14 years so dont expect to have the correct answers about HERE. Because you are wrong by several of your comments so I give up. Its pointless auguring.

Even though you are wrong (I've demonstrated via VAT how they pay more than you and the fact that any 'tricks' they do are clearly legal tricks..which would then lay the blame at your government for allowing it and you who voted in your government) I'll play along

The $1000s they pay to accounts...would that money perhaps help pay the business taxes of the accountants? the wages of the receptionist? the wages of the building manager? The wages of the coffee shop the account stops by for his morning coffee? etc etc etc....

Rich people SPEND, that money is taxed, that money directly impacts the businesses they spend the money in...they do not get given cars for free, coffee for free, fish and chips for free.....if they spend a million a year they pay more in VAT than you do in income tax in 5 years (being generous).

You stated the rich do not pay more than you....please qualify that statement with a few facts and figures vs 'pub talk' and personal insults.

Again...did you pay 20k in income tax last year? yes/no..it's a simple question.
