the white thingy was a Spectrum +3e with a built in hard drive. Sadly don?t have it no more and don?t have any photos to show either?. Was quite a nice little project, +3 coated in appliance white with gold leaf on the Sinclair logo? ho hum.
What about the keyboard ZXBeccy, was it white too?

It was... I was never 100% happy with the keys though, again, sprayed appliance white with watersilde transfer letters... Looked good.. but not perfect. :)

so what happened to it if you don't mind me asking?
It went missing somewhere along the way... Don't know when or where sadly.
Tried looking down the back of the sofa or under the fridge?
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

Oh well, you have the most amazing Sinclair collection, with or without the white +3. I have been wanting to tell you that since I first saw your photos months ago when you almost sold it. I was watching the events from this part of the world and trying to decide whether I should rob a bank and use the money to buy your collection LOL :P I am glad you got to keep it..

WOW... Thanks... you really have been lurking aint'cha! Thankfully my family bailed me out so I won't be selling it any time soon, sorry :)
Would we have bought these instead of the black ones if introduced instead? Count me in!!
That's a difficult question. If I could, I would definitely buy a white one to add to my collection today. Back when I was 11 and got my first ZX Spectrum, I probably would have preferred the black version. For some reason, at that age, I thought all electronics looked best in black.
Did you notice that some of the prototypes have BASIC keywords/commands that don't exist on the final version, like SCROLL, FORE, UNPLOT, BRTR, DLL, etc. ?

Wowsers. Nope I hadn't. Love the spacebar too...
( That dosne't mean I think its better than the final design either )
Well SCROLL and UNPLOT were on the ZX81, FORE is presumably what would be INK (as neither that or PAPER are present). I guess the updates to Sinclair Basic hadn't been finalised when these were being mocked up.

Beccy, one last question about that white Speccy: Did the waterslide transfers wear off with use? I tried using dry-transfer letters on a PC keyboard, and they only lasted a week or two before wearing off. May be I didn't use the right kind.
three "NOT" options.... one on the 'S' key, one on the 'N' key and another on the '0' (zero) key also there are two SGN functions: 'F' and '9' keys and two SQR functions: on 'H' and '8' keys respectively

they lasted exceptionally well, but I did use a spray lacqueron the keys after putting the transfers on... and it didn't get too much use either.

Also, aren't ARCSIN (on "A"), ARCCOS (on "S") and ARCTAN (on "D") supposed to be the same as ASN (on "5"), ACS (on "6) and ATN (on "4") ?

That's about the same time I started lurking, and now I have WOS hooked up to my arm via an intravenus drip 24/7 :D
clivey puts his white speccy on then cancels the listing :p ....

Whoa! I mean, seriously, WOAH!!! Thats outstanding!
Hasnt Rick Dickinson got one of these?
It is Rrick's.
all prototypes from the moulding plant :)
white discolours over the years though, depending on the plastic.
Yes, that photo is from Rick Dickinson's Flickr album. Check it out for more prototype pictures, at http://www.flickr.com/photos/9574086@N02/sets/72157600607571866/

You have a point there. So many white plastic electronics I have owned, ranging from telephones to Amigas have yellowed over the years.
I think its as dull as vending machine coffe. I'm glad they went with the design they did.
Didn't say it was better than the design they went with.
As something I'd not seen before I thought it was special.

Also, no CIRCLE, DRAW, DEF FN, FN, OPEN#, CLOSE#, CAT, MOVE, ERASE, FORMAT :)

Cool. Sounds like you put a lot of time, effort and love into that thing.
