This machine seemed very futuristic in its design,i was sad to know you couldnt play any commercially released games on it.

Yes, and yes you could, Match Point was great on the QL..better than the speccy version. Still have a QL and a few commercial games...including Match Point.

hehe no not quite, there were only a 'few' and most were not very good. I have one called 'Flight Simulator' by Microdeal and its terrible...but yes there were commercial ones. Rich at rwap software runs the wiki page about It I think.

I'm sure he will be along soon.

It's the Sinclair QL. There was a Spectrum emulator for it. And it's a little known fact that the Magnetic Scrolls games on the Spectrum are actually running on a sort of QL emulator (a cut down 68000 virtual machine).

    Good evening all.

I see 'spectrum QL' used in various contexts, I have no idea where this phrase comes from as it is 'Sinclair QL' - Sir Clive wanted to break away from the Spectrum completely with this foray into what was intended to be a business machine.

There were quite a few games released for the QL - have a look at the QL Wiki for more details of its hardware and software:
    http://www.rwapadventures.com/ql_wiki/index.php

Although the QL Wiki is by no means complete - we would love people to add more things to it to help expand it.

There are also a variety of Spectrum emulators for the QL allowing you to run the majority of Spectrum software should you so wish - http://www.dilwyn.me.uk/spectrum/index.html

There are dedicated QL forums - www.qlforum.co.uk and also an emailing list (Ql-users) - http://www.q-v-d.demon.co.uk/smsqe.htm, as well as the Quanta user group - http://www.quanta.org.uk

Alas I don't know anything about the QL... which means that the SinclairFAQ wiki has no QL information at all. Perhaps there can be some "inter-wiki-collaboration" ;)

Although I'm still very very angry and bitter towards you and your gazumping of that ebay listing ( ;) ) I still think you do a grand job. But I can no longer find those Rwap-made QL games I ordered from that ol' Micro Mart add. You must re-release them... NOW! You know the ones. Wish more people made QL games, whether on floppy or on microdrive.

I am going to watch your posts until you sell something cheap on ebay, and then I'm going to win the auction, and then I'm going to get your address

and then, and then I'm going to wait until Christams and send a letter

    :D

actually, that's far too much effort, so just pretend I did it, okay? Thanks.

I seem to remember a chess show, (possibly presented by the Judd enator, her from Blue Peter) that used Sinclair QL graphics to show the board and pieces on screen. Don't think it was the usual BBC 2 one that used to be on though.

    OK thanks for the accolade!

I do my best to help promote the QL and of course, that helps me with my sales of software and accessories!

As for the Chess - do you mean Psion Chess - http://www.rwapadventures.com/ql_wiki/index.php?title=Psion%20Chess&lang=en

    yes, that is the one!

I 100% remember it being used regularly on a Chess show, which ran for at least one series.

thought at the time it looked pretty high tec.

However, I play chess online with my dad, and occasionally on Windows Games - and we both prefer the traditional 2D displays for some reason nowadays.

I just don't have the time to sit and test them all and get them all working unfortunately - what tends to happen is when someoene asks me for one, I will then go through and make up a good working one and throw non-working ones away.

I even have two really good boxes here, which just need a working QL in them!

Bought one late 90's from one of those ropey retro shops in Notting Hill Gate, you know, the one with the depressed University drop-outs working in there. Cost ?30 which I thought was ok at the time as it was boxed, got it home, keyboard half-worked and the Microdrives didn't. Bargain.
