Whenever I see FSM (for finite state machine) I can't help thinking "flying spaghetti monsters". So my recent workings for FPGAs written in Verilog are full of flying spaghetti monsters...

    rubberkeys? :p

they kinda ruined the whole news story with

"The photo was not approved on religious grounds. The only criterion for photos in driving licence applications is that the whole face must be visible," said Manfred Reinthaler, a police spokesman in Vienna.

makes me wonder if all religions got started that way, a load of atheists claiming they believe in something stupid to get a bit of attention. obviously without the internet you had to proclaim all your meme's from a hill.

Funny thing about religions - chimpanzees have been observed trying to ward off a thunderstorm using the same gestures they normally reserve for chasing off aggressive rival males. They seem to believe they can affect the weather by treating it as a chimpomorphised entity, a sort of chimp Thor or Zeus, god of thunder.

If you don't get hit directly by the storm, you start to believe these things work, and build your whole society around such unconnected and statistically dubious causal relationships. Then when the human sacrifices fail to stop the volcano going off (Santorini) you're whole society (Minoan) collapses.

Although I do love the whole FSM thing. I'm not sure about the monster, but I'm considering getting a shiny pirate fish for my car. I would just love though for something to go a bit unhinged and for people to genuinely start believing in the FSM. Or for archaeologists, centuries from now, to be taking it as a bona fide 'ancient' religion that kids learn about in schools.

By the way, as I already pointed out in the thread about the dubious "Spaghetti Football" Spectrum game (which most probably was one of the countless games which only exist as WoS archive MIA entries and nothing else), spaghetti and meatballs is an American invention. We don't eat pasta that way.

Anyway, whoever puts a picture of himself with a pasta strainer on the head on his driving license (or any other document for that matter) is a dork in my opinion
