Lot of interesting speak in that article! Sounds like a few retro characters might be making a comeback...he mentions Zool and Jack the Nipper amongst other old games! :)

Great that old games are getting remakes and sequels. Sad that the platform is useless for traditional game controls. Virtual D-pads are not that usable.

Minotaur rescue is by far the best game on the platform as it was designed from the ground-up for touch.

Platform games such as Monty Mole or chuckie egg just simply cannot be controlled properly on a touch screen.

I hope this doesn't mean the original game will be removed from WOS due to copyrights. I've no problem with people buying the copyrights to a particular game to produce versions for IPhone, etc, but it angers me when as a consequence the particular title(s) are withdrawn from distribution.

Oh, and I hate IPhones.... Give me a next gen HTC anyday...

have to disagree. I've got lots of platform games on my iPod, completed a fair few as well. Yeah it took a bit to get used to it but I now find gaming in iOS very easy including platform games

Love gaming on iOS. Got over 300 games, great quality, dirt cheap and lots of home-brew with new games coming out almost daily. Course I would prefer actual buttons but for platform games iOS is fine

I don't know - its taken me 30-odd years to 'get used' to the pin-point precision required for games like Monty Mole and Manic Miner on a PC. I really struggle with the IPod controls. Mind you, that could simply be down to my withered old age. Plus the fact that I am rubbish...

Yeah I'm not a fan of iphone games. I have the Elite collection but its not something I really play a lot of coz of the controls.

Certain games I think would be great though where the controls were not so important. LOM, Viking Raiders, Football manager etc.
  • A new Lotus game would be nice!

looks cool, looks a lot easier tilting the phone rather than those crappy touch screen buttons

Yeah for a game like this i think tilt controls work perfectly. For platformers i love on screen buttons, when done right they work fine on iOS. Theres a new platformer out at the moment which uses tilt and not buttons, just feels weird on a platformer.

Took me a while to get used to on screen buttons but now i'm fine and play a ton of different games using them.

But Bounder has to be tilt. Hope theres some more basic levels as this one seems like you have to jump from one high point to another. The original had a lot of flat surfaces with objects to avoid.

Either way its looking great, hope its a success. If theres a Monty Mole it has to be touch screen buttons though

I dislike the tilt on the iphone too as a control, the ones I've tried you have to hold the thing level to the ground and so look down onto it or you end up moving it back (for up etc) so you can't see the screen very well...which isn't generally the position I want to be in when playing

A 'resting position' calibration for each game would be a nice feature so you can put the iphone in the position you are going to play and hit the calibration button to set that as the zero x,y,z

I'm afraid of all these remakes. The target market is.. us.

About the controllers, imagine if you had something similar to a classic handheld controller where you could attach the phone. Something very light and easy to setup. There might be something like this already (haven't searched).

Well I dunno about a classic controller, but I did a roundup of some Bluetooth controllers for mobile phones in this thread:-

    Hope that helps :)
