There's no subtle in joke. Lister is just a guy in CSS who had a habit of making... less than insightful... posts. Nice bloke, but if there was an incorrect conclusion to be drawn, he would draw it. If there was a point to be missed, he would miss it. And if there was a slightly disturbingly inappropriate thing to say, he would say it. Reliably and without fail.

We're friends on FB. He often brightens my day with his increasingly desperate and ultimately fruitless attempts to have sex with anything that looks or sounds remotely female.

Not too techy at all. Lots of activity in most sub-sections of the forums.

What I find interesting is that we go months in a row without a problem, but when there's one heated discussion there's always someone who says "I'm out of here, these forums are not what they used to be...". The usual generalization and all. Yawn.

WOS has to be techy, its like a pub, school or library that keeps the subject alive (in the English language !) for anyone who wants to learn the hardware, languages or simply enjoy the fantastic products of yesterday.

I would say its of importance that the experts are able to pass on their art to the next generations, everyone benefits. hardware/software is getting better all the time but there are many fine details to the art that cannot be easily passed on statically, they require discussion and meditation.

I am in the middle, i use WOS for information on technical subjects and leisure only ever using the forms for PM or technical reference. What ive seen has been extremely positive on the technical side but perhaps there are issues with the "virtual spirit" of the spectrum online just now.

perhaps that is why we come here ?

not an expert just some dunce.

actually i'm not sure why i come here. frobush was the only one i had any interaction with.

    All together now!
    Love, Love, Love,
    Love, Love, Love,
    Love is all we need...

On a more serious note, the forums has always seen an up-down swing vis-a-vis techy (one man's meat) and non-techy (another man's poison) discussions. It has what made the forums tick so far...

Wasn't there a web site/page at some point which had a load of his inappropriate (in)articulate answers from c.s.s?

Yup and "Lister is looking for a guitarist and a bass player. Preferably female and into threesomes." The guy is a legend, for all the wrong reasons :)
