New logical game coming soon

edited September 2011 in Games
I have a pleasure to announce that I'm close to finish my next game :)

Rather small and not very ambitious project but I hope some'll find it enjoyable.

The title is Reductio ad Nihilum and as title suggest we must clear all the board from the jewels.

We select 2 jewels of the same type in a row or collumn and they, together with everything between them will dissapear.

Sounds simple but on bigger boards it really requires strategy, planing and experimenting.

Have a look on the 1st level how it works:

Coming soon in next few days...

Yes, I do see two graphics which would benefit from a bigger size.

    /on-topic: Looking forward to it.

If the flames moved while the game loaded it would a nice touch. :)

Yes they are quite modest aren't they ;)

I agree. Those shoulder pads should be larger.

Oh my! Your wish is my command people. I'll make them bigger.

Anyway why do all women in games have to have them big?

They go with different sizes in real world, you know?

Well, yes, but the cleavage above the costume is a little over-defined for what is shown further down. It is a great drawing, face, hair, arms, hands etc. Perhaps a tiny bit of shading to the sides of the torso and shoulders would improve it, as parts of it look a bit flat compared to the arms..?

Yeah, I think i's the lack of shading/dithering on the main body that makes her look like she's got a couple of tangerines down her top. Because there's shading on the arms, too, it just doesn't help, I'm afraid. But, still, looking aces.

looking great! (with exception of those two (read:too) small problems mentioned above...)
pretty spacey, almost 3D L-bow shading makes the other important parts of the drawing unnecessarily shallow and flat.

with this corrected the game will be all about the flawless gems...

    Thanks people!

As you maybe know drawing full 256x192 pixels loading screens is harder then drawing 16x16 sprites for example. There is a lot of more decisions to be made which influence the final result.

I am a very modest artist but I'm always making graphics to my games myself, trying my best and to become better.

When I have time and sober up :) I'll try to improve her.

Surely it's best to not be sober when approaching this particular problem :)

Best not to be too drunk though or she'll end up looking like Mongy Lard

I have uploaded the game to Martijn. It should appear soon.

I'd like here to thank great as usual Mister Beep for supporting me with
    music.

If you find any bugs, let me know. The real life worries take their share
and I was doing final touches to the game while thinking about something else so bugs are completely possible.

Nice - it's blimmin' difficult though.
One slight issue - when you finish or quit a game, it forgets your joystick selection on the title screen.

Bloomin' tricky, but nice work! :)

Top stuff!, only on level 4 at the moment. I'd prefer this as a 'continue same level', so I'll be using snapshots.

    Nice one Ralph.

    really nice game, good work.

Got to lv12 then made some stupid mistakes, so time to use snapshots!

    Great game!

Regarding the loading screen, I somehow suspect people had in mind something closer to this:

The .SCR file is available here if anyone's interested...

EDIT: Improved left shoulder and a couple other details

There are probably two little bugs:

    1) Password for level 9 - one missing symbol

    2) Level 28 - one invisible symbol

    Thanks for report!

Yes, there are 2 forgotten bytes to be corrected and set some non zero value. I'll upload the corrected version soon.

Since you used my "alternative" screen, you may want to update your map since I have just edited my previous post with further adjusts... see above.

Also if someone thinks my previous change wasn't enough, I want to make it absolutely clear that I would never edit it like this:

    5jwtqq.gif

Neither would I provide a corresponding .SCR file like this.

^^^ HA ha! If you run it backwards then the changes correspond with the name of the game.

When I first saw the screen and the title, for some reason I thought it was Harry Potter related, don't remember that woman from the films though.. :p

Anyway, am I the only big thicky thicko here, took me about 10 attempts to beat level one, before I noticed that the first post told you how to do it. Stuck on level 2 now! :-(
