If the former, it's fairly easy to program. It's often easier just to program all possible outcomes to guarantee either a win or a draw than to write an AI opponent.
If the latter, it's not the same thing but you could look up an ancient game called 'Nine Men's Morris'. I don't know if there was ever a Speccy version of this strategic board game.

I was thinking of a plain noughts-and-crosses with the terrahawks visual, but having the cheat option might be pretty cool as well!
I think some sampled speech of the major (aka Winsor Davis) everytime you win would be cool too ! Love the original telly series too, it were ace!
It Ain't Half Hot Mum ? youtube is full of it :p
the character look like a certain speccy character whose owner loves litigation
it'd be ok to do , I mean there is only a finite number of moves the things can move also.
I'm quite proud of my Nuns and Crucifixes game I wrote in BetaBASIC which asks the player to enter the move in the format TL (top left) and MM (middle middle) etc, it then searches a string to see if that move is valid. It was a crap game competition entry but I bet it's a mess as a proper program. Anyone want to suggest some improvements?

One or more boards per screen?
Power ups like Slide, Warp, Bomb, Evil Twin, would be hidden on squares and could be used once found.
If I do have a go it will be in BASIC.
