Has anyone on here bought anything from this website as i was going to buy as ZX Evolution but i am in 2 minds about it. I had an email saying they wanted the money paid via Western Union so the fee for the amount I I would send (?110) would be just under ?20.

I just dont know if i want to risk so much money and then i could lose it.

I cant find anyone who has bought anything from this website soi hope someone on here has.

I'd skip it, that sounds well dodgy.

I know Western Union won't do money orders or whatever from the US to the UK, dunno if it works in reverse? You did mean $110 in the bracketts there right?

?110 for an emulator? I know one thing's for sure I'd be telling the author to ram it up his cockhole for that price

Thats to convert it from ? to $ and i have to agree with you.

I would love to own a pentagon or scorpion but i cant find anyone building them and selling them on.

Then again with emulators like zx spin around i might stick to those as i have a laptop that i have setup as my emu machine.

I have ?140 and i dunno what to spend it on. First time ever !!!

Erm? Keep it, that's what I'd do, either that or go out on an all nighter get really pissed up, buy some random girls a few drinks go to a party with them after wherever and wake up 30 miles from home the next day with a stinking hangover, and none of that ?140 left for a taxi. The plus is the 6 hour walk home will remove the hangover, unless you did ecstacy tablets then you may just die on the way home? :D

a posh man would buy a pair of wellingtons

a middle class man would buy a Kindle

a working class man would buy 140 scratch cards

The second anyone mentions Western Union i would run a mile.

If it was paypal (where you 'should' be covered) then i would do it but western union ? Heard so many bad things about it, sending a complete stranger money via Western Union, nah wouldnt do it at all

Interesting you should say. What's the prob with Western Union? My understanding is that they merely act as middle men for transferring money - as opposed to buying/exchanging goods like paypal.

Always heard there was no comeback if you didnt get any goods. Eg if i send someone money via western union (and then dont get a laptop which they said they would send me) I 'heard' theres no protection. Eg i send you 200 pounds Western Union, all you need is the Western Union transaction number (No ID or address) and the moneys yours. You dont send me the item and i cant do anything about it

Nigerian 419ers often use western union for these very reasons, you'll never get a scammer using Paypal as theyll need to register a credit card or address etc.

With Paypal youre protected, with Western Union youre not at all. Perhaps things have changed but i've just always been told/warned never to use Western Union for things over the net

NedoPC is not a stranger, it is here for 9 years already and have produced and sold few hundreds of ZX compatibles and addons.

Evo is not an emulator, unlike some other modern ZX clones - it has actual Z80, AY, FDD controller etc, FPGA only contains glue logic, which allows to implement fixes and additions without using soldering iron, just with reprogramming the firmfware. Basically it is just implementation of ZX clone(s) using modern electronic components.

There is no PayPal in Russia, and not much of other possibilities to transfer money in/out. WU is one of very few, and actually is the best of available - it is simple and fast, at least.

See here for my thoughts / experiences on using Western Union / Moneygram to order exotic Spectrum clones: http://matt.west.co.tt/spectrum/speccy2010/

In short: Western Union is not dodgy in itself, although it does involve accepting a certain degree of risk, and making a judgment call about the opportunity to get your hands on a really neat bit of hardware versus the small possibility that they'll take the money and run. Which means you're absolutely right to seek out feedback...

I haven't had any dealings with NedoPC personally, but I know several people who have (including Mister Beep, who will hopefully appear in this thread at some point...), and they've all had positive experiences with them. You might also want to look at the http://zx.pk.ru/ forums (which are more or less readable through the built-in translator in Chrome, in a Chinese-whispers sort of way) - I know it's not the same as a personal recommendation, but there's bound to be one or more threads on there full of excited people receiving their orders, and if there was any funny business, you'd certainly hear about it there.

(The other thing to take away from my blog post is that - in the UK at least - Moneygram is likely to be a lot cheaper and have less 'weird' agent locations than Western Union.)
