edited October 2011 in Chit chat
right ive been on pipex as long as i can remember, its crap generally but its unrestricted and stable.
BUT
theyve been taken over by talktalk and from the 7th of november it changes.
everything looks like it doesnt change.........apart from one thing, instead of being unrestricted ill get a cap of 40gb a month........so **** em.

now i can do someat like 6/8gb a day on a good day so 40? pffffffffft

anybody got any ideas of good (downloader friendly) isps?
i used to use an isp review type site years ago that listed reviews and good points / bad points of all uk isps but not seen it for years, ring a bell?

    Here we go:

    http://www.uswitch.com/broadband/packages/?gclid=CJDK5tvW1KsCFYMKfAod6jLYRQ

BT and Talk Talk offer up to 40GB... Don't go with Talk Talk though because their service it awful. BT is better :)

Broadband postcode checker (checks what ISP's are available in your area):

... punch in your postcode to check.

talk talk took loads of other providers over of late, inc. pipex and tiscali.

dunno how much you pay a month , but when they took over tiscali I was left without connect for 3 months, if it's ?6 or something then yer they cap it probably (I've paid more for longer). I have emails from their CEO stating I'm on unrestricted connection AND they dropped the price :p . I also contacted the directors hehe

if I get messed around by them, I'll change provider myself.. but depends on how much you can spend on it in a month.

I'm with Demon Business 2+. 200GB/month during peak hours (8am - 11pm), and unlimited outside of then. It's ?19 + VAT a month. Had no problems with them.

ive been with pipex for about 6 or 7 years and was happy, it was stable and unrestricted, it IS expensive however, about ?24 a month for 1mb but cos its restricted it wasnt too bad, bet the price doesnt drop cos of a cap tho

thats way too much.. thats like a lowend phone / BB / tv package cost.

virgin do something BUT they use their own phone line.

I was paying ?16 or so for ages, but because of the "mess up" they have frozen it to ?10. I beta test a few things inc. music software, and well the downloads are stupidly large.. obv. I do them off peak (after 12 at night) and they haven't complained.

I only pay ?7.50 a month for my broadband package, i got a discount because i have sky tv and sky talk.
Slightly off topic, i'm getting sky +HD installed on Saturday (i wanted just sky+ but they don't do that anymore) so i can now record programmes/films that are on too late to watch (and in HD too!).

My switch from Orange to BT happened yesterday and after a rocky start (getting the Hub thing delivered really), things seem OK. On a good day, I could get 8meg download speed on Orange, but straight away, my BT Hub is delivering 12meg and they say that the more we use, the faster speed we'll be able to get, but I'm more than happy with what I've got now ;-)

It's also an "unlimited" service. There was an option for a 40gig limit (cheaper package), but I decided to go for the unlimited option. I think it's about ?30 something per month, but that also includes are line rental and home phone line too.

Well, I can say that the BT Hub is deffo worth getting. It's really easy to set up and connect wirelessly to and it's secure too. You get a WPA password, put that into whatever you want to connect to the Hub and your off. It's also really stable too. I've been on my laptop with it for about 4 hours now and I've not been dissconected once. That never happened with the Orange Livebox and the Netgear router wouldn't connect at all! I've also got a very good signal off of it too. It's in the same place as my last two routers, but I'm getting 68% singal strength now, but was lucky to get 30% off the Livebox and 15% from the Netgear.

So I'm pretty happy with it ;-)
