I love curries but i'm not keen on silly hot ones, just cant seem to taste anything, just seems a test for drunks late on a saturday night to see if they can eat it.
While I think that's true, the thing about very spicy curries is that you do get used to them over time. I know this will be hard for anyone here to believe, but as a teenager I was the sort of tragic nob-end who would order a prawn phal in an Indian restaurant, possibly in a desperate attempt for attention, and I found I adapted to them after a while. You can still taste mainly the chillies, but you can also actually taste the other ingredients too. I wouldn't want (or be able) to eat a phal now, but a chicken vindaloo is a thing of great beauty.

My mother-in-law thinks ginger is a fiery hot, spicy, foodstuff, FFS!

This thread is making me hungry.

There's a curry hose down the end of our street that is the only one in town that does Phall's.

Fill me up a bucket with it, and send it my way :p

I don't like my curries too hot. I find that it spoils the flavour beside making the morning trip to the loo a none too pleasant activity.

The best curries are the ones that are mildly spicy but have oodles of flavour. Some curries I really like Chicken Chettinad (is the same as Madras I wonder), Lamb rogan josh, chicken do piyaza (literally chicken with 2 onions).

What is a tindaloo? Never heard of it!

Did you just jump straight into this thread without reading anything first Arjun?

Come on tell the truth ;)

We've also rabbited on about Dupiaza, or Dopiaza, or Do Piyaza (I take it your spelling is the right one? It's never spelled the same on any menus from different Curry Houses I saw back home?).
    Every night is curry night!

prolly the hottest thing ive even eaten is some spaghetti bolognaise my gf made.

first instead of using pasta sauce she picked up a jar of chilli sauce, then proceded to add a good helping of curry powder, all without tasting it.

she then mixed it in with the spaghetti. so its not like there was any plain pasta to soften the blow.

the worse bit was, as we all know you can't just take a mouthfull of spag bol, it ends up all over your lips as you slurp it in. i had to mime my annoyance at the end of the meal

so any one who reckons they are some sort of curry master, just mix that phall with soem spaghetti and then we will see whos laughing. :p

i haven't had mushy peas in ages, might have to get some.

the problem with my gf is she never tastes anything while she is cooking, she just looks at the time on the packet, or the time she assumes it will take, so we alway shave half cooked chips or hard potatoes.

she always is in wonder how my backed potatos are fluffy inside and brown on the outside while hers are, really hard to cut open.

and when i push the half eaten plate away from me in disgust i get a load of **** about not being appretiative for her making the effort.

    i am losing weight though.

    so swings and roundabouts. :p

Hottest would be a phall I had years ago, came out nearly black and had the taste of battery acid! Best hot thing I eat is probably Naga chicken, as hot as a vindaloo but a nice smoky flavour runs through it

Must admit (same for chinese) i much prefer the starters over main meals, nice to have a bit of variety. Had a few hot starters but nothing super crazy

Just depends on the places you go to, Prawn Pathia can be very very hot othertimes not so bad.

Love to start off with onion salad and a fair few pappadoms, the lime pickle stuff isnt too bad. Thing is round our way the takeaways are so cheap its tempting to get one quite a few times

I'm a madras man myself, I like spicy but not too spicy that I can't taste anything or feel my face anymore. Hottest thing I've tried is my mates Trinidadian hot sauce. Hot hot hot!

Another thing is you must have naan bread with a curry, the best is the garlic and coriander ones from Morrisons, very nice.

I was at an Indian Restaurant yesterday and saw on the menu not only Vindaloo but also Tindaloo (I know there are curries hotter than these too), and that got me thinkng. What's the hottest dish you have ever eaten?

I went to a Thai restaurant and was eating a salad that had some kind of hot pepper in it and I guess I got one with a lot of seeds in it.

My eyes and nose were streaming so much I had to NAVIGATE my way outside because I could barely see.
