The few times I tried to provide content for wikipedia, some anal-retentive dumbarse has always removed it in-spite of me spending a large amount of time reading the submission guidelines, painstakingly ensuring I adhered to them, provided references etc. I quickly got bored with that game.

I'm now of the opinion that I'll continue to use wikipedia for exactly as long as find it useful, will definitely not donate anything, and I won't shed a tear if they shut it down through lack of funding or poor management: if that happens then I guarantee somebody else will operate a replacement, which may very well end-up being less annoying.

well that's obviously pretty crap, ditto the other stuff like that mentioned in the thread...I would get the huff if that happened to me but for some reason I've never even been tempted to contribute anything. from merely a browsing p.o.v I find it a good site.

Today the Jimmy Wales image has changed. This one even worked on me a bit and made me think, poor Jimmy.

I have not donated, but I am close to doing so even if it is only a one off ?2 donation. I find it refreshing to be free of adverts. That's why I love the BBC so much. I never write articles, but it is one of the main 4 websites I use on pc and phone. The amount of times and different reasons I refer to it is ridiculous, almost always providing me with a satisfactory outcome:-)

I don't know how you guys, but I can hardly stand his face anymore:) I'm quite often checking Wikipedia and he really looks depressing, like some kind of drunk and hobo.

And in this beige jacket he looks like a nude hobo :)

I agree, I had a similar reaction when I first saw the pic. Not a flattering one, in my opinion.

Looks like the sex offender-esque smile didn't work, now he's resorted to staring really hard and looking all intense, to try and intimidate money out of his users

You can download mysql dumpsm so it only useful if you know how to setup a web server and MediaWiki on your PC (not very difficult). There are many other kind of dumps with and without revisions, talk pages etc. Anyway, it is not less than 7 GB without images, and up to 5 TB, still without images.
