ebay picture thiefs

dunno if any of you have this issue.. you list an item, take a pic.. so therefore it's your (C) .only to find out another seller has gone on your listing and ripped the pic.

there is a "ebay catalog" thing , but I opt'd out of it as why should I do the work for others. as then it makes them stock photos.

I've had someone deny they are ripping my pics , but I do something to them so it's easy to find.. so I confronted them again and they even fessed up and didn't even say sorry.

I'm getting fed up with how lazy some folk are tbh. (cue you lot listing loads of items re-using my pics..lol)
(and if you don't like the topic blame Mile, he didn't come up with any :p )

I had it happen to me before with a ZX81 Memory expansion. I complained to ebay and the offending listing was removed. It had my table and carpet in it, stains and all :)
  • It's not really theft though is it?

Do you still have your picture? If so than it's not theft, merely duplication.

Excellent work! Been a few weeks since we've had a 20 page copyright thread

I'm guilty of stealing descriptions, not so much pics. In the past If I've had something and wasn't sure what the hell it was I'd look it up and if the look up description was good, copy /paste it.

There's some **** on ebay who is using 1 of my (incredibly old) illustrations for his 4million Spectrum games on CD auctions. I contacted ebay a while back after the **** ignored me. I wonder if that ****'s still using it as ebay are a bunch of useless *****.

it's copyright theft, as yer I put the pic on ebay to show what it looks like.. BUT on the same token that doesn't give you permission to lift / use it also :)

it's more the fact you spend time taking pics etc.. only for someone to just lift them. if they had asked even (I'd have said no anyway..lol)

so the seller gets back to me.. denies it..

I tell them flat out I know they are lying and can prove it easily. they call me petty.. blah blah . not even a sorry / fess up.. I would have given them credit for that, but now I don't feel a way about it.

but so many have done it, it's to a point where I do something about it (unless it's 100% charity listing.. is the only time I let it slide)

ccowley, blame mile.. not my fault he hasn't posted any threads to stop me starting this one

they are watermarked another way.. I hate having the name over it etc. but I've switched it on now on top of that.

You still have the copyright so it can't have been stolen. ;)

Guesser, did you have Rebel's permission to reproduce (quote) his post?

One of the way i used to copyright my artwork was to make a copy of it, put the copy in an envelope then send the envelope with my copied artwork to myself recorded delivery then when i get it, put it somewhere safe unopened and keep the recorded delivery details in a safe place, too.

Yeah, seems like that's easy to fake, old stamped envelope and a boiling kettle.

I'll have to dig through my moms old letters from the 70s and stick a DVD of avatar in it and re-seal.

beanz , thats why book authors have to be VERY careful what they are signing.. as some sneaky folk try to get them to sign something to say it was inspired by their work etc :)

I think you'll find that I own copyright of quite a lot of things. It says so in the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Copyright is pretty irrelevant unless you have the $$$$$$$ to sue, so in that sense yes it does cost you money to copyright it as unless you follow through with the enforcement it's worthless.

Aye maybe, here small claims court starts at 1/2 million.

..think I'll stop at Mcdonald's on my way home and throw a cup of coffee in my lap. (No small claims jokes please)

Not if you're on the receiving end of a lawsuit (like some of those poor saps that were bankrupted for sharing a dozen songs on P2P).
