when did you last buy a spectrum game?

When did you last buy a new commercial game in the shops for your spectrum?

I guess I can't really answer that because I sold my spectrum in about 1989 but would I be right in guessing 1991/1992 was the end of the speccy as a commercial platform?

The last game I bought was Final Fight in 1992, or maybe Bart Simpson vs. the Space Mutants. I can't remember which one I bought first, but I am sure those were the last ones I bought.

The Speccy commercially died in my country in early 1992. For example, Street Fighter II was never released here, AFAIK.

I bought my Amiga by the time Street Fighter 2 was released on the Speccy, so I wasn't buying many titles by that time. I do remember that I wanted to get Daffy Duck by Hi-Tec Software, but the company went into liquidation before they could release it. Shame as it was looking like a nice game.

Whatever it was, it was in 1985. Then I bought an Amstrad CPC 464, which shared quite a few titles with the Speccy.

Must have been in 1988 right before I left Europe. Can't remember which game though...
But recently I bought the 4 games from Chronosoft over the internet. They are still in business :) so maybe 2003 if that counts.

The last brand new (as opposed to rereleased) Speccy game I bought from a shop was probably Football Manager 3 in late '92/early '93.
The last brand new game (as opposed to rerelease) reviewed by Your Sinclair (the last surviving Speccy mag) was Dr Who - Dalek Attack in issue 91 (July 1993), but when YS closed, 2 months later, Alternative were still talking about releasing Alvin & the Chipmunks, so that might well have been the last new Speccy game available in shops.

Possibly around 1987 cos then my punk instincts took over and i had more pressing things to do than computers, like drinking and shagging and stuff :)
and 1988 i left home leaving my speccy behind *sob sob* a few years later i then bought my atari st - got a speccy back about 7 years ago or something

It was 91, no doubt about that. I had a C64 ("Boo! Hiss!" I know ;)) which got more attention towards the end of its life because IMO the software being released was far more interesting. I think the last 8 bit game I ever bought must have been in 92 or even 93. Not sure if it counts, but I bought every issue of Crash right until its dying day... The Amiga got all the attention after that and then the SNES...

I couldn't possibly remember what the last Speccy game I bought was. More than likely it'll have been a rerelease from the Hit Squad.

The last one I bought was the cheetah games pack for the light gun (I bought a new gun about 2 years ago from Cash Convertors for 50p)...they're pretty crap, compared with Op Wolf and The ones that came with my +2A.

It was either the Kixx rerelease of X-Out, or Dragon Breed (which Boots were selling for 4 quid in original box). I don't know which was last, but it was 1992 and I'd been an Amiga user for a while, but I still was playing Spectrum games regularly. And I bought the second last Your Sinclair in 1993, the last ever to come with a tape.

Bought lots of used (or not, in the case of some from UKRetro) in the last few years though. And a few more Spectrums too.

I got an Atari ST in 1989, and my brother got the Speccy, so I would guess it was Spring or Summer '89 - couldnt tell you which game it was though, probably a ?1.99 jobbie at a wild guess, as I used to go into town and get one or two a week.

Not in the shops, but I bought Egghead in Space last year. Christ knows what the last "new" game was I bought before then, but I did buy a job lot of games from Cash Converters when I was at college back in 1997.

"Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles" in 1990, I think - or maybe Mot by Opera Soft (although it was released the year before, it seems).
Anyway it must have been that year.

I think my last game was Extreme, in Summer 1991. But in 1992 I got two more game in a small electronic shop as budget software: Exterminator and Rescate Atlantida.
na_th_an said Street fighter II never was sold in Spain, but I have some catalogs where it's announced and available to buy. Althought they also have available mega twins...

It was in 1993, and the game was Streetfighter 2, a very brave attempt it was too, I had never seen it before, or again since.

Streetfighter 2 for me as well. It was a very good effort from US gold - but it was a shame that it was not really finished. In the version I have half of the characters moves don't work from the right side of the screen so you always had to kind of fight from the left! Good fun tho'!

I've got a strong feeling it was in 1993 that I last purchased a Spectrum game, because it was in 1994 that I realised they were no longer being sold in shops. )-:-)

I can't for the life of me remember what it was, though. Gauntlet III? Chase H.Q. II? CJ in the USA?

The first Spectrum games I downloaded from the Internet were Manic Miner 2 and Jet Set Willy III in 1996.

In 1993, IIRC. I think the game was Deadly Evil.

For me it was the sequel to Chase HQ - Criminal Investigations. It was so bad, that that very night, i packed up the speccy and chucked it up the attic.

1993 It was Streetfighter for 3.99. I knew it was crap but I wanted it anyway. I think it was a KIXX or Hit-Squad re-release, not sure though. Either way I was surprised that the shop I bought it from was my local electronics shop that i used to get my budget speccy games from way back in 86' and it was the same old fella that served me. By 1995 the shop wasn't his any more and speccy games were stripped from the shelves.

I was sad as my +3 still worked.

Never. And I'm sure almost everyone from Eastern Europe will say the same.

To my eternal shame, I bowed out earlier than most and headed to Amiga pastures. My last Spectrum game was Renegade III. Nothing like going out in style is there? ;)

Rather inexplicably I felt no compunction to buy Spectrum games after that. Sadly the Spectrum found a new home up in the loft keeping company with the spiders a year later. Curse you Renegade III The FInal Chapter!

My last two were Encyclopedia of War: Ancient Battles and The Bard's Tale so at least I went out on a couple of high notes.

I moved on to an Atari ST after that, although it wasn't too long before I was running the old Spectrum games on an emulator...

The last games i bought were from John Menzies in 1994, they were selling off their old stock - i got plenty of old Alternative and Kixx titles for 50p! I can't remember all but i remember buying Mercenary, Rally Driver and Strike force cobra - all at 50p each! I think Alternative are still selling speccy software.
