Yeah..pretty bad here too! Loads of tiles off the roof, and we've currently no power...been gusts of 109mph here!
My dad has stuck the generator on for a bit, but as the electricity company have said we could be without power for 2 or 3 days, he's putting it off again soon to save diesel...
Bloody mental winds this morning, but it seems to have quietened down a bit....there's a few trees down on the roads round about too though, so might not be going anywhere for a while...
I'll need to find something to do besides internet or Xbox now...I might even have to read a book! :o
I'm a bit worried about the fences around mine - they were flapping about this morning, and the table/chair/tarp that's right up against the house was heading off down the garden. Earlier this year I hacked down the vine that was pulling the bottom fence apart and massacred the rose bush at the side. The owners haven't seen it yet.
On my way to work I stopped as I saw something big move in the trees over the road, as a tree sagged in the wind and didn't spring back upright. Seconds later a huge lump of rotten wood dropped about 40ft and hit the road in front of me.
Great, the other fence has just fallen down (the small fence in the bottom left hand corner of the photo). The garden is a disaster now.
I've let the landlord know so it'll probably be fixed in June or something.
Storm has just hit us in Denmark along the coast. But here where we live, all is fine and dandy. I made a cup of cocoa for the cozyness of it all, but the wife thinks thats strange.....
Went to the train station today and was told all trains to and from Glasgow were suspended. I phoned the work and they told me if i wasn't in today then not to bother coming back again!
I finally managed to get a bus in but it took 2 hours. I managed to get to work at 12.30. I got the train home though.
What a start to the new year!
I'm getting pi$$ed off listening to the bloody fence panels in the garden rattling on their posts. Getting worse and worse, so I dread what I'll face out there in the morning.
I absolutely HATE blustery weather like this. It sends the kids I teach at school into an complete frenzy too.
fixing fences / posts is the bain of my life for a few years when I'm out of london, it's in to the wind / gets windy. just hope they hold up, trying to transport fence panels on it's own is "fun" .
I've probably mentioned it a few times here maybe.
one way to "brace" a fence it to use a small wooden gate halfway down say an alley way, attached to th e house. it helps a lot to keep the thing from shaking itself broken. (or failing that boxes of MAC's SCRABBLE :p )
one of the posts where I am is right near a drain so it's a pain as it's always that one that's problematic.
a load of york was flooded yesterday. my gf was driving me home when a 4x4 (rav 4 i think) started honking at us and flashing its lights, some old fella leaned out and said the road ahead was completly flooded. we looked and it was pretty deep.
my gf was about to turn round, but i said in a blokey way 'come on love it'll be fine'. i didn't actually think she would atempt it, but she did. It was a bit ropey for a moment as the car started drifting towards the river, but she kept her foot on the gas and we got through it. it was only a little toyota aygo too, lol, i hope the bloke in the 4x4 saw us, and felt suitably emasculated. :p
The flat roof from the buildings opposite was blown loose and flew into our building, smashing my neighbours lounge window before falling into the street. Luckily no injuries.

of course he saw, he was hoping to put it on youtube, showing some woman have a go at her boyfriend for jamming the middle of the car in a river :) .. I'm guessing your a none driver ? having a car fill up with "crud" water , yuk. most of the time the bottom of the car is ok.. but you'd have to do a "dukes of hazzard" to get out of the car if you stop :p
The rest of my side fence is on the verge of falling down, i called the landlord and they said they had a backlog and will get to me 'when they can'. I warned them the longer they leave it the more it will cost to fix (half the fence is down and the other half is at an angle). I'm going to the office on friday to sign my lease so if nothing's done by then i may have to stamp my foot in anger!
The fence still hasn't been fixed, had a rather angry exchange with Gemma at APC yesterday, she said she had a call from the maintanace guys saying the fence has been fixed - it hasn't. I now have half a fence missing and its starting to blow rubbish into the garden which i keep having to get rid of.
That's 7 weeks now - how long does it take to erect a 8 foot fence?:-x

Looks like my shed roof took a battering in the winds, the corrugated iron is all skew whiff now.
