As far as I know the game has no 'official' loading screen - the screen hosted on the WOS archive is a much later fan-made mock-up, dated at circa 2002-2003.

Correct - hence why it's not listed as a loading screen, but as additional material. ;)

Just dug out the original comp.sys.sinclair thread - the story there is that it *is* the genuine article, created by Matthew Smith's friend Steve Leyland, and recovered from an old tape in 2000:
