Anybody into pinball ?

edited April 2012 in Chit chat
Hi Peeps.

I am new to the forum and apart from a love of the Spectrum I also collect pinball machines.
I currently own seven.
Anybody else into pinball ?

Take it easy,
Andrew.

You can't beat the real thing.
Although you don't have to have a degree in electrical and mechanical engineering to keep an Amiga running. ;)

Saying that, there are some decent pinball games for the iPad.

    Andrew.

Used to play them quite a bit, but to the annoyance of my friends or the GF. That was because I could make 50p last for about 2 hours of play when the table was in a good mood (as we all know they cheated you).

Myself and a couple of friends could easily make 50p last us all night. We would just beat the highest score (gives you three replays) then tilt the rest of the balls.
Many a time we would leave the machine with 20+ credits on.

    Andrew.

I haven't played them for ages, probably last time was 15 years ago or something since they are extremely rare to find nowadays, at least here. But I do really like them!

Most of the ones here in the UK are now in the hands of private collectors. Some of the prices are crazy, ?5k for a top end machine. :-?

my dad made us one when we were a kid, it had nails instead of bumpers, and your arm istead of a spring, gravity istead of flickers, and your imagination instead of sound effects.

    ah right,

never knew it had a name, just searched for it, and it looked exactly the same, maybe my dad didn't build it then, he was always making up lies like that. lol

back in the olden days, kits were available to turn coin-op bagatelles into pinballs, they were predictably quite crap

I used to subscribe to a magazine called Antique Arcade Magazine, which was mostly just an auction catalogue with the odd feature, good read all the same though.

Unfortunately my love of motorcycles is too expensive to support my passing interest in coinops.

I love the artwork on the older games but not the gameplay.
This should bring back some memories for you:

    Hello by the way. :)

I can (sometimes) get high scores on Adams Family and Lethal Weapon 3, not very good at Star Wars, apart from one flukey game, where I just shot endless ramps for 30 minutes, some of the older machines I can do well sometimes.

My dad taught me how to hit the sides of the machines with my palms without setting the tilt off.

Problem is, if you do find an arcade with a pinball in, chances are it's not properly maintained, and the flippers don't have enough bounce, or there are other problems.

    Guilty secret time.

I loved that game back in the day. It was even before I had ever played a real pinball machine though.

Nice. A friend of mine has Indiana Jones, it's a very good game.

    I currently have:

    Demolition Man
    Indianapolis 500
    Twilight Zone
    Addams Family
    Star Trek The Next Generation
    Whitewater
    Roadshow

And sadly no more space for any more:-(

Even though I live by the sea, pinball machines are very rare. I only know of 3 in the town (CSI Batman: Dark Knight and a Terminator one I think), but I've never played them because I'm not very good at real tables.

I was pretty good at the WWF Royal Rumble table though and I was very upset when the arcade sold that machine on :(

But, the glorys of PinMAME allows me to play that table again at my leasure. It's a bit of a bugger to get PinMAME up and running, but once you've got it going, it's a great program :)

As far as games go, I've always loved Pinball Dream/Fantasy on the Amiga, Revenge of the Gator on the Gameboy and House of the Dead on GBA. Pinball FX2 on XboxLive is well worth checking out too ;-)

What decent pinball games are there on iPod touch? I have a 4th Gen, so it should play anything really. I did have a trial version of one, but I thought it was overproced and the trial kept bugging me to buy the whole thing, so I deleted it :(

I had been doing some repair work on my Addams Family a couple of weeks ago and thought I would have a quick test game. I ended up with 2.6 billion. My previous best ever was about 954 million. 45 minutes on one game, my wrists were killing me when I had done !

Pinball Arcade is pretty good as it has real tables.
Zen pinball is good too as is HD Pinball.

Twilight zone of of my favourites. My favourite of all time is a Dr Who one, not because I'm a huge DR Who fan, but because of its functionality. I remember it having a 3 tier mulifunction pop up
