Astronut Remake info ?

edited April 2012 in Games
About ? decade ago, I was very happy to see that somebody works on Remake of my favorite ZX game Astronut. I think His site was linked here, but when I checked for updates a week or so ago, it wasn't there :-?
Anyone of You good people knows something about this unfinished (or maybe it's finished now ?!) remake ?
I would be grateful to read some info on Astronut.

    I had never heard of this game until now... Since you mentioned it, I sought it out via the WoS info Seek search option, but didn't find the instructions too helpful... There is a version there that is stripped of the copy protection, but there is no mention anywhere about what keys are needed to control the game... As far as I can see, the keys are as follows:

    Z=LEFT
    X=RIGHT
    ENTER = DROP BOMB
    S=START GAME FROM MAIN MENU

    Upon beginning game, it give you a choice as to which level you wish to start on, using Z/X and Enter you can select...

    Are these the keys, as far as you remember them?... Or are there more?... If there are more, perhaps you could update the InfoSeek Game instructions there, as you might be the only one familiar with this game!!!!

    After FINALLY sussing out the keys (the old fashianed way, that we always used whenever figuring out the keys of any C60 cassette tape game missing its instructions - via trial and error!!!), I actually have to agree that this game is indeed seriously under-rated... Its actually quite remarkable, in terms of its variety, sound and puzzle elements...

    A nice little gem...

    Your "trial & error" method is quite effective, actually those are the keys + "Q" = MUSIC ON/OFF (while in game).
    Left, right & bomb(temp/delayed - so You will have to calculate when to drop it) and that's all, but nevertheless You can go all over the screen using lifts/volcanoes to go up and simply fall down to go down (You won't lose a life by falling down from high !)
    I am glad that You find this game remarkable, it is a simple game but sometimes simplicity is deceptive ;)

    I discovered this little gem of a game by chance about three years ago.

    You're right, it looks deceptively simple, yet it's a platform/puzzle hybrid of great complexity and sublety. Well worth a remake.

    I actually find it really awkward to play, it's twitchy as anything, but yet I kept coming back to it for quite a while.

    Probably haven't played it in about 3 or 4 years now though.

  • Never seen this before. It's a strange one all right. Some interesting ideas and quite unusual level design. The constant noise gets on my wick a bit though ;)

    I used to play this back in the 80s. IIRC it was rather jolly!

    So did I. I liked it. I've only played it a couple of times since then, though.

    @aktiv8
    Thanks a lot for info !
    P.S. That page is very bland !? On top of page it says: Gilby(avatar) March 3 - Which year ???
    I downloaded the demo and it is in very preliminary stage (no sound/music; 4 levels only; no collisions; no bomb...) but anyway it's a good foundation for a future remake.
