Making a video with in-vision video advice needed

edited April 2012 in Chit chat
I'm after making some Spectrum gameplay videos of people playing the games, so that when played back, a small box in the corner shows the game, or maybe flips so the big screen shows the games while the small screen shows the faces of the players. I think GamesMaster and similar shows used this technique. The game screen and player reaction screens will need to be live/synched if that makes sense.

Any advice on editing/capturing software? I hope I've explained myself well enough!

sony vegas can edit picture in picture. (25 quid)

as for capturing, fraps is free, and well a camera to film the face.

heres a little tip, turn the volume of the pc down when you do it, let fraps capture the game sound, and the camera capture the sound of the person. its be a bugger to sync it up.

depends on the soundcard(s) and mode you use, e.g. if your using an onboard soundcard + say a USB mic.. then your forced to use MME mode..

but WDM with decent soundcards, the latency is low / good enough.. depends on lots of things .e.g. the pc speed, if your compressing as you caputre, if your capturing to a 2nd drive and the soundcards used.

for example, people will spend a shedload on music software, yet their soundcard is a pile o crud.. and they wonder why they have issues with it
