    Judging by the date on the IC I'd say a 48k Spectrum (+).

    Doesn't sound like a ULA for a Sinclair machine at all. The Spectrum used the 5C and 6C series ULA, not a 9R. How many pins does this have?

    Wouldn't be a speccy as the internal layout of a R series ULA is different to the 5000 series, which is why, when Sinclair needed to move to the R series to lower current consumption and heat, Ferranti created the 6000 series specifically for Sinclair. The 6000 series has the R series IO peripheral cells, and cut-down R series matrix logic cells so that they closely resemble the configuration of the 5000 series. The upgrade path for Sinclair was therefore cheap(er) and a simpler case of minor rerouting of the design.
