This story makes me think of the '15 Million Merits' episode of Charlie Brooker's 'Black Mirror' where people have to pay to skip adverts. (OK in this case the networks don't want people to skip adverts, but you get the general idea.)

If you could subscribe to a network without advertising I expect that people would.

It's understandable though that people are miffed when they pay to get TV and then have to watch ads.

    on the other hand...
Fox spokesman Scott Goggin said the ad hopping feature could end up "destroying the fundamental underpinnings of the broadcast television ecosystem".

    Would it really do that?

In that case I hope they sell one to every home in America :D

Good! Ads piss me off, I'll admit I like a clever one but seriously there are no good or clever ads on American TV apart from during the superbowl, and most of those are sh*t, and overfunded.

Nobody really pays attention to ads anyway, because nobody trusts the sneering cheesy lying bastards that are on em'.

The BBC say you pay for not having ads, but I don't pay to have to wait half an hour in the middle of my bloody film while the news is on!

Sod off! I don't watch telly now anyway it's crap!

BAAAAAAH! BILLY BOLLOCK CHOPS!! BLLLRGH! PFFFFFT! :D

In Sweden the ads are about 40% louder than the programmes and so I have gotten into the habit of muting the TV when the ads start. This means I sometimes miss the beginning of the next part of the show through not noticing it has started again.

The BBC and ITV are contractually obliged to provide news programs at certain times. I'm sure they don't like rogering a good film with news.

  • Why are they going to court over this? People will still skip the ads, they'll just have to do it manually instead.

Same in the UK......I remember Channel 4 got into bother for cutting into the credits of some programs advertising what was coming on later at about 3 or 4 times the volume a while back too!

It's the same here too so we can assume it is the same in pretty much every country.
