Faulty +2, What could it be?

edited May 2014 in Hardware
Hi,

ZX Spectrum +2, grey model with a barrel connector for power.

When powered up the screen has lots of flashing coloured blocks each with some rubbish in them. Looks a mess.

Any idea what might be the fault, know its difficult from that description, but it may ring a bell with some of you.

Glad of any help

Thanks

Sounds like the problem I'm having with my CPU socket - do you have alternate black & white bars behind the flashing attributes?

Ive just aquired a faulty +2B, horizontal black and white bars with occasional flashing screen corruption but the bars always remain. Z80 and ROMs switched out to no avail

    (Sorry for the thread necromancy!)

    RAM next then?

Or buzz out all the traces to look for cracks or shorts first.

At least there's only 4 memory IC's to check on that model :)
