I have been working with audio codecs/amplifiers for a few years now and one pretty universal feature is short circuit protection. I doubt you will find a singled consumer device these days that can be damaged.
You're probably correct. I will not however be going round shorting out all my audio outputs to check :p
Yes you can use adaptors, and this is similar to the way that I have done it in the past (I keep a small stock of various leads and adaptors, both audio and video, as not having the "right" lead for a job is most annoying).
For "everyday" use, I prefer to make custom cables and this keeps my spare adaptors free and ready for use when I need them for other jobs.

Step up to red alert. Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb!
Looking forward to summer in Somerset later in the year :)
This is my low-tech solution - a car cassette adaptor thing. Used to use these for playing Minidiscs in the car - now it is just as useful for playing tap files from a pc on my +2 with a knackered drive :)
A cassette adapter can be effectively used with a +2A without even the need for activating the Datacorder. It will load anything! Read all about it here.
On a +2, as far as I could see by myself, this trick only works with TZXs featuring the standard ROM loader.

I wouldn't bother with soldering for something like that... I use a cable like this one with one of these adapters plugged in the end.
(Other retailers are available. Maplin have them, at a predictably inflated price.)
