Rock bottom

edited December 2014 in Chit chat
I'm probably about to lose my job due to something that happened last week, my wife is due surgery in less than 2 weeks, and I've just found out my ma has just been taken back in to hospital :(

Has anybody got a loaded gun?

I didn't chin anyone, but I just might if the thing at work blows up, plus my wifes surgery is tied to the health insurance I have through work, I lose the job my wife will not be able to have surgery, and will continue to be sick constantly over and over again, so now you see why I'm not exactly having a good time of it all.

So if this does spiral out of control at work somebody will be getting chinned infact the c**t will be getting his f**king head cut off and pissed on

I haven't actually done anything to get fired for at work, but something somebody else did, and something somebody else pointed out to me, and something with the something and me getting the blame for it since I was in charge and didn't take the right steps to blah blah.

I'm the lowest management on the totem pole, therefore it's my head on t' chopping block even if it's not my fault.

If it comes down to it ... it is better to get fired rather than quit.

Don't forget you can't get unemployment over here if you quit (or at least that's how it is here in MN). And if they fire you the insurance might still stick around for a bit as part of any sort of severance package you may have(???)

Apparently they frown upon Geordie Justice in the US of A so keep your powder dry old son ;)

Seriously though bud hope you get a change of luck soon and it doesn't turn out to be as bad as you're possibly thinking right now :)

I'd pretty much echo this. DON'T QUIT. It's not as easy to fire someone as it used to be. Chances are you'll be able to sue them if they do.
But if you're aggressive or threatening at work you're giving them an easy way to get rid of you. You're gonna have to grit your teeth and ride it out for a bit and see where things go.

    Good luck.

Come back to Europe, UK, the US sucks!

If it all goes pear-shaped, move back to the UK. Your wife has the right to immigrate since she's married to you. Then get the op done on the NHS.

Hold it together and don't do anything crazy. If you really care about your wife you won't do something that can make things harder for her. Doesn't matter if you're in the U.S. or the U.K. People go through rough times. Some of them get desperate and do things that they later regret. Others keep calm, think clearly, behave responsibly and ride out the storm. When you love your family, for real, you go with the latter.

Yes, I'd agree with this completely. Outside of a probationary period it's quite difficult to fire someone nowadays without good cause (violence, sexual harrassment, racism, etc) so don't do anything but your normal job. If they try to constructively get you out (by giving you real **** jobs like cleaning out the bogs so you leave) you can sue them for constructive dismissal.

I hope things get better for you though, mate.

I've got no intention of quitting, I'm just a little worried that I'm gonna end up being the one that gets the chop just because of one bad decision I made. I probably won't get fired I'm just a little uneasy at the min. I've never made any major mistakes at work since I started there, and in the 5 years I've been there I've had near perfect attendance with only 2 days off sick (and I'd have went in on those 2 days if I could've got off the couch, one of those 2 days my wife practically forced me to stay home, I had my uniform on and was halfway out the door, even though I was so ill I could barely move).

I actually did the work for my promotion too, I deserved it, I didn't kiss anybody's arse to get where I am. But they're very fickle at my place, and regardless of how well you do, one slip up seems to last forever, and it's usually downhill from there

EDIT: Trying to talk to someone at the hospital where my ma is, driving me mad it is too. the only person who can speak to me about it is on her bloody lunch break, and I couldn't even get an answer about 2 hours ago when I was supposed to call them

I've been hanging on and off the phone for about 45 mins now as well, and this is all at international rate, it'll be racking my phonebill through the effin' ceiling

you'll be fine ya big geordie poof... work have to jump thru a lot of hoops to get rid of you normally.. esp. if it's a big company like where you work is no doubt.

as for ya wife / ma , well there are more important in the scale of things. Sure things will work out , give a bit of time.

you could always come back here and get a job in a local shop.. for local people
