Alien 8 Trophy

I always wondered what happened to this, glad it is still owned by the original competition winner.

I think this is the first time I seen a colour photo of it, the picture in Crash magazine was in black and white if I remember correctly.

The guy who owns this also mentions there is a second one belonging to the Stamper Brothers.

You know it's a Ebay driven world when the first you think is "I wonder what that would go for on Ebay".

That box art is quite strange ... by the way, somewhat unrelated but out of interest I just had a look at the japanese Wikipedia article for Knight Lore - now, considering the impact the Speccy game had back then, it's kinda shocking to find out that, according to the last bit of the article, the Famicon/NES version that was released towards the end of 1986 received the lowest rating ever in one of their domestic Famicon-specialized magazines (called "Family Computer Magazine", only a JP-language Wiki page exists).

But then the Japanese also referred to JSW as a "foreign crap game" somwhere on t'internet ...

It has to be said that the NES port of Knight Lore is rather lacking in that all the rooms have basically been squashed flat. This rather misses the point of the original, in the same way that the C64 version of Carrier Command does, but I'm still not sure it's the worst game ever on the system. Something on the Action 52 cartridge, perhaps?

As for the comment on JSW... well... may they forever be cursed with tediously grindy RPGs with unwieldy combat systems.

Regarding JSW, I meant to post this yesterday - a rare Japanese view on the game written in (sometimes funny) English, based on the MSX version. There's a few more sub-sections to this JSW "article", accessed from the menu on the right.

The website itself deals with the lesser-known games for the MSX machines in Japan and it is apparent that most releases with European roots aren't exactly revered by them. Oh well :-)

This is a little weird, I find this photo of the Alien8 trophy, and the bloke that owns it (Wil Overton) is in this months Retro Gamer (No 109, page 31) talking about it..... that's just spooky.
