    fixed for you...

What definition are you using for a popup?

Haven't you ever had a fullsize javascript window scroll from left to right onto the screen, blocking the page your trying to look at? Poker and gambling advertising mostly.

I like a decent ad on telly.

Many of the Honda adverts I enjoy.

Dream the Impossible Dream one was awesome.

Yep... I don't see how it's really possible to police it though, unfortunately. Even if they outlawed the use of compression or any post-processing of the audio for adverts (which would be... bizarre), the sound men could just place mics under tables and stuff to get the same effect -- things you'd normally expect to be quiet like a plate being placed on a table, or a mug of tea being stirred, would still be as loud as people talking on so on, so the effect would be maintained.

That's why automatic gain control was invented though... It's down to the TV channel to broadcast with the appropriate levels, not the advertising company...

What used to be possible (but I don't know if it is as easy now with everything being mpeg streams) was to have a circuit that monitored the saturation of the colour subcarrier. The saturation invariably jumped up during the ad breaks so you could detect this and automatically mute the audio. In fact you could use it to blank the screen or pause a recording if you really wanted to avoid the breaks.

The words are definitely English. The sentences, however, appear to be pure gibberish.

you seem to be lacking manners.. such a pity.. that's more a reflection on you or how you were brought up, perhaps.

esp. the "true peak" function of it

might be of use to you, because you have obviously mastered stuff for broadcasting boundaries , that advertisers have to stick to.. even though things like radio stations run their own compression / limiting on again.

I dunno if the "ASA" could be involved also.
it's possible to monitor it for clipping in real time (at various metering standards) .. and just keep a log of the exact times.

there isn't really an excuse for them to be doing as a limiter at the end of the audio chain (master bus) stops it as that's after the summed audio.. and most have the broadcast k12 standard as a preset , one I use >

That stops you from hearing the tv programme too though ;)

And remember kids, making a cup of tea or going for a wee during the advert breaks is stealing! :D

I definitely wouldn't say "mastered", no. I just seem to know a bit more about it than you and I paid enough attention in junior school to be able to form my thoughts into something approaching valid, coherent sentences.

my thoughts are fine.. your manners are not... think it's REALLY that simple...

notice you doing the same on other threads, that bored huh ? I'm sure you act the same way in real life perhaps.. but you may find someone also takes offence from it also , in a more direct manner.

Listen fog; unlike yourself, I have said nothing in this thread that someone with a functioning sense of humour could possibly take offence at. I assume all that all that stuff about "someone taking offence in a more direct manner" is supposed to be a thinly veiled physical threat, which I choose to find both amusing and, if I'm honest, a bit pathetic.

Unlike yourself, I post here under my real name and it would be the work of but seconds to find out my home or work address from that. I also stand by every single word I've written in this thread; if you don't want anyone to take the rise out of you for writing gibberish, then don't write it. And if you're going to allude to pathetic threats of physical violence, then have the b*llocks to make them in person.

so my nick isn't my real name.. right, because it's 100 miles away from my real name.. I'm guessing at least 5 people know my real name here. I don't mind.. I know others names on here.. but don't mention them , only their nicks..

is it written that I have to post as my real name? oh dear.. rather pathetic on your part.. should I be annoyed I don't know boozy's real name ? I think not. he's boozy to me , end of. Same with Mile and JD and x-amount of others. Best tell the others to close their accounts as well right..

Your "humour" isn't to my taste.. and to others that you seem to try to bait.. want me to point to the threads? (I would but I won't be replying, but take all of 2 minutes to find) . I find you ignorant.

threaten you ? hardly.. I was merely wondering if you are so ignorant to people in real life ? simply that.. I know it wouldn't wash with people I know , for a start.

I can quote numerous times you have been rude to me before.. yet the moderators have let you get away with it.. bit of a click I'm guessing.. cry off to IRC to moan about me instead..lol

you will notice *YOU* have started $hit with me.. for no apparent reason.. so you have the front to talk of being pathetic ? .. point out a time where I started being rude to you ? good luck finding it.. Mr Gussu won't even find it.. because unlike you that's not my nature.

you say I post gibberish, you can say "disagree" surely.. you should perhaps look where I disagree with others.. not to be blatantly ill-mannered to boot. It makes your argument look weak if you have to resort to such tactics..

but I won't be replying to you again.. solely because in your case you have repeatedly done the same.. and think it's "fine" to act in such a dunce manner.

there are others who I don't get on with / or they don't get on with me.. difference is.. THEY KEEP IT RESPECTFUL (and I do the same, even though I won't be going boozing with them any time this century) . learn that and you might go far

I do suggest you go read bob katz book on mastering.. it's a good read...

This "IRC clique" (I corrected your spelling for you there, hope that's okay) thing seems to be the default position of any tiresome bellend on WoS with an axe to grind. For your info, I have not been in IRC for ages (weeks, I'd guess) and when I have been in there, the goings on in WoSf have not featured particularly greatly at all. Occasionally someone posts a link and it is discussed for 2 minutes, that is about the size of it.
you will notice *YOU* have started $hit with me..
I have not "started $hit" with you, you tiresome bore. I made a single allusion to the fact that one of your posts didn't actually make any grammatical sense at all (sorry, but it actually doesn't). We all could have laughed about it, but you are such a self-centred penis that you embarked on a massive voyage of bellendism resulting in this. I don't even think we've disagreed on any single technical point at all (although I only understand about 50 or 60% of what you write due to your poor grammar and inability to construct coherent sentences so I might be wrong).
you say I post gibberish, you can say "disagree" surely..
Nope I can't say I "disagree" with something if I can't understand the language it's written in.

they call it perceived loudness, with volume.. it's a trick to grab your attention.. they max that out.. so although the same volume your ears hear it as more.adverts you have legal volume boundaries.. but it's a way to bend the rules a little.

i actually meant the adverts on the internet, but i know what you mean about the loudness between shows. e4 is pretty bad for it.

'wacky socks' and gone "brilliant, just what i need" and made a purchase.

Or am I underestimating the alluring power of these things? just something that occurred to me the other day...
