e-cig

edited February 2013 in Chit chat
just picked one up from tesco. it was six quid, and the packet states it should be equivalent to about forty cigs.

its a lot heavier than a regular tab, the end lights up when you take a puff, and you get a mouthfull of smoke.

it kinda feels like smoking, but the are just some differences, like the weight, and the smoke doesnt feel as warm in your mouth. you dont get as much smoke either.

yet to really judge it as an aid to quit, as i cant be sure if im just getting a placebo effect.

first few drags and i was coughing like mad and wheezing, dunno if it was because it was a new sensation.

i did read a few articles about it harming your lungs, but i think regular cigs do that too.

love to hear thoughts from other users.

for the nonsmokers reading, you could up your post count by saying you dont smoke :D

e-cigs and then vapour cigarettes I just don't get them. It's like taking a shower with a rain coat on.

loads of reasons, you wont stink anymore, and no second hand smoke. but you still getting the nicotine

My wife tried them when she was stopping smoking. It didn't really do anything for the craving, but smoking was one of her "escapes" from the kids for 5 mins so she could still nip outside and have a quick puff without lighting a real cig.

She ended up stopping using a combo of patches/nicorette mints in the end..

I can't see you as a smoker.. just from saying that.. have you ever smoked properly / long term ? .. I dunno, you seem to have more sense (than me, for starters)

mile after 20 years and a few attempts, I gave up.. you can too,ya big poof. it will be far from easy though.. forget all this e-cig crap, you're still needing your fix of it. it is healthier though.. but still.

I still get cravings.. but well remember 2 years smoking for me = new car.. and you wouldn't light up ?10 notes for the sake of it. did you ever read the alan carr books (not the comedian) ? it sorta makes you think .. yer that makes sense, but only is part of it.

I just went cold turkey .. BUT avoided people for 4 days.. and just slept a lot.. to help while the first few days of hell passed. It'll take say 2 weeks to get passed the worst bit..

so time it of a night when you go bed.. so you get a 8-12 hour head start and avoid folk.. just sleep etc. or do very little that will wind you up. have a nice jar of cig ends / ash in water.. open the lid... take a sniff of that if you feel to smoke.

you more than likely will put on weight, BUT you taste food and your appetite comes back. I used to chain smoke in certain places e.g where there were none smokers.. and it was more fun folk not twigging I wasn't going out for a smoke after 2+ hours hehe.

most people try the cut down method.. just prolongs it and you start up again.. you will feel you have more energy after stopping though in a month or 2.

it's not easy , and you will always get cravings for years later.. trick is not to go for 1 cig.. as it's enough to kick start you back again.. first cig you smoke after quitting tastes horrid.. I lapsed after 3 months once..

just avoid things you associate with smoking also..e.g. the pub :)

think of all that money you could save to be buying spectrum games instead!!

you will get smokers offering you cigs also.. a few mates tried that with me

yer but I don't think they are cheap right ? cheaper than cigs.. but still quite pricey ?

I'm guessing Mrs Mile don't smoke? . I dunno how an ex of mine put up with my smoking tbh. looking back.. as yer the usual clothes stank of cig smoke.. even when I buy speccy games off folk, I can tell a lot of the time they are a smoker :)

No generally I don't smoke, but occasionally I will if I think it's worth it. Personally I don't think normal cigarettes are worth it, but a few 'funny' fags now and again aint doin much harm.

most people say this but it was the opposite for me. must've tried about 20 times over 10 years to properly give up. the first few days were always easy. would feel much fresher/more energetic etc... 2 weeks would be my limit then serious cravings would kick in. I think I finally gave up by fluke, I had serious flu which I think might've actually been pneumonia 3 xmases ago. since getting over that I haven't had one craving for a cig, 100% given up. strange way to do it but I'm not complaining :-)

she does yeah, shes yet to try it yet.

the one i got was a dispossable one, with forty cigs worth, six quid for that compared to seven for twenty real ones. cheaper to get a rechargable one.

thats what the pack say though, so it could last longer or less. as you just taking hits, so its not like when you light up a real one and feel obliged to finish it, or dock it out half way through.

yep a cold and coughing off half the contents of your lungs always helps.. bringing up something that looks like this fella always helps you think WTF

I do think if I can give up anyone can , I use to smoke like a chimney.. but well some ex smokers are proper militant about it, to a point where it's not helpful.

if you don't give up first time.. go again till you do / try another method.. I think it took me 3-4 times , but the big thing was I had to be in the right frame of mind.

They can work out expensive. I've found the '40 cigs' estimate is a load of rubbish - more like about 5-8

However, you can buy the active nicotine juice in small bottles and refill the filter tips for a tiny fraction of the amount. A couple of drips from the bottle is like a new refill. Search for 'e-juice' or similar.

A mate I work with built his own, it looks like a big silver dildo

I got a disposable one a few months back and it was sh*te tbh.

I'm thinking of buying a proper one so I can just get off the real snouts, and so I don't have to go outside at work any more.

Congrats to fog for giving up clap-animated-animation-clap-000340-large.gif

Everyone can; just take different methods. ?10 for 20 will do it for some

I was off the snouts for 6 months, and all it took to get me back on them was a temp job with a chain smoker driving round in a van for a week or 2.

After the millionth time the c**t asked me "You sure you don't want one?" I said the immortal words "Oh go on then one can't hurt".

I've been smoking again for almost another 5 years.....hmmmmm! :D

the craving never really goes, due to the receptors it leaves behind.. just they are dormant I guess.

murtceps, did you ever smoke / give up ?

I think it's 1 thing a none smoker telling you about giving up..and someone who has.. in the sense of how it grips you and I do have sympathy for the pangs folk get.. but start saving the money you'd light up.. it's crazy, I wondered how I even afforded to smoke.

there is another person on here who has written about giving up on FB.

it's ?8 a pack yet? I recall at 17 it was ?1.12ish for 20 (and ya still could have change for a 9 course meal at the ritz)

Is there anyone on here that has never smoked?

I've never smoked myself despite my mother, stepfather, grandmother, three aunts and two cousins smoking..

A family friend tried one of these e-cigs and gave up after one try. She eventually went cold turkey and has lasted four months now.

I tried em in an effort to quit myself - along with a few guys at work. I found myself thinking it was ok but I missed the smoke feel...the steam/vapour doesn't haven't the same feel in your throat.
After a few weeks I went back to normal ciggies, of the other two chaps who tried em one is back to smoking more now than he was when he quit and the other has a turbo powered version of the e ciggies and is totally hooked on it.

I found myself quitting cigs a few months later by old fashioned cold turkey, do cigars now - don't inhale em so the Mrs tells me it doesn't count as smoking
