+2B datasette issue

edited April 2013 in Hardware
Mate of mine has a +2B, always worked before until today, it seems the azimuth is going out all byu itself and constantly needs re-adjusting (the screw doesnt move by itself) also he gets feedback from the head if his hand gets too close! Anyone any ideas?

Not my area but I'd say if feedback from head by just getting near it the earthing of the metal 'deck' is probably poor.

May be worth checking it is properly grounded, if needed maybe attach an eyelet strap (cannot remember off hand if the +2's have one or not) , I seem to recall the +3's had a small wire strap from the diskdrive metal case to the main PCB, its been years since I looked in a +2 so not sure but I would guess they may have a strap from tape deck to main PCB too, it would make sense imo to have that as well as the normal connector which has voltages / signal and ground on i.

If the head is moving on its own, is the other side screw (if present) coming loose ?

Not sure what else to suggest.

Thanks spider i'll let him know, fairly certain he looked at the other screw, would have been one of the first things he did
