The Silicon Dreams festival celebrates our silicon chip age. If you appreciate all things electronic, then this is the event for you. Modern and Retro, this event will feature a wide range of exhibits including computing, gaming, music, film and so much more?

This will be a family event including computing workshops, retro computing and vintage gaming. It doesn't stop there - we'll also have film-related entertainment, arts activities and - of course - electronic music. On top of all this, there will be all the attractions of our host venue including science, engineering, fashion and toy galleries, a heritage railway and an area for under 5's. There is also the country park nearby. It will be the first of its kind and we think that it will be a very special weekend for everyone.
Raspberry Jam will be running on the Friday and Saturday of the festival - the former aimed towards the education sector itself. The Saturday will feature as part of the main festival and will be more suitable for families, younger family members, hobbyists - in fact just about anyone! If you'd like to know more about the Pi, learning to program, or if you have a family member who is interested then this is for you.
But there's more...
The Silicon Dreams festival is to be joined by one of the Godfathers of British synthesiser music. Martyn Ware, co-founder of The Human League, Heaven 17 and British Electric Foundation will be hosting An Evening With? special event on Saturday 6th July. He will talk about his career as one of the pioneers of British electronic music who helped change the charts forever. Later in the evening he will be joined by special guests Northern Kind and Heaven 17 for some fantastic live performances.

It all takes place at Snibston Discovery Park, Coalville in Leicestershire from the 5th to the 7th of July 2013.

It is also worth pointing out that this is being organised by the Vintage Computer Festival - GB, who successfully ran the event at Bletchley in 2010.

It should be a very similar format to Bletchley - just not in Bletchley...

105 mile drive each way.. it's tricky for me in the sense of event are either biased one way or the other... gamers or more those into the tech side. Maybe it's fair to say no event properly covers both.. I might go, I'll see who is going from here I guess.

just had a look at the site , did have pics from vcf 2010...

a few wos'ser I know well are at retro revival thing at the moment.. should have gone I guess, as I got a few messages from friends off here, who went.

I've been battling my evil internet provider, who I've dumped and made it rather well known how bad their service was.

Not an option I'm afraid. We did consider it but it just wasn't possible.

No, ?49 for what could be a one-off opportunity to hear a talk by one of the most influential names in electronic music. Plus a Q&A and a live performance in an intimate venue. Not to mention food and meeting the bands. Nothing is being milked.

well known, sure.. but influential ? nah.. I can give loads of names that really are.. and more that aren't mainstream, but those in the know, know their work.

vince clarke (the famous BBC micro user ;) ) and kraftwerk ... Eno and Jean-Michel Jarre , 2 more really obvious ones.

( music stuff, esp. electronic I have an interest in)

Well, for me it's a 15 mile drive, then a 4 hour ferry crossing (that also costs a great deal of money), then a 150 mile drive, each way - but I'm still going!

Well, that's your opinion and one I know plenty of people would disagree with you. ;) I'd argue against anyone who said that Being Boiled wasn't ahead of its time; or that Illustrious isn't cutting edge (which Vince Clark is also a part of).

True there as many musicians out there who are influential in their own and differing ways, including the ones you've mentioned.

Martyn has been a muse and driving force since the beginning for this event and not everyone in his position would be. :)

    Simon.

depends if you have a good accountant.. think how much you could save on traveling expenses.. as yes you lot are charging an entrance fee.. so obviously bletchley was a good money spinner for both you and them.

if I drive far for getting to work (beyond the branch I work out) , in my own vehicle I can claim it back.. so don't see how it's any different ;)

sure there is a way to claim it back.. x-amount of MP's probably are well schooled up on such things..

Hahahha! I like your sense of humour. :)

A good money spinner for me? I didn't take a penny and that is the honest truth. In fact, I spent money on the project. The first VCF was for TNMoC (a charity) to dig them out of dire straits with rent, which it achieved. People gave their time and money for free to help me achieve this.

Money "claimed back" still has to come from somewhere. As for the comments about an entrance fee, these things are not cheap to put on.

Seriously. Check your facts, because when they're so far from the truth it risks offence.
