most free stuff gets customer loyalty in the long run.

one of thier customers was so happy he created this thread giving them great free publicity. :D

where is the loyalty card for the games club huh ? like the good old days with computer club .. 3 for 99p ... then they fleece ya for the months after.

things like spotify / last.fm etc take their business.. so it's another model. If I start posting spectrum videos on youtube.. then I'll be using my own music (claiming for it also) , which is what a friend does.

amazon have been offering/renting cloud and download services for companies for a long time (cakewalk use their servers) . No issues on that front.

there is 1 small issue with their service.. i bought a few cd's as gift's for other, but I'm the one offered the service.

it's to get people into the kindle fire side of things also, no doubt.

So if I had a friend who listened to Justin Bieber MP3's all the time are they gonna send him links to gay porn or something? What if this friend registered on Amazon with my mother's email address? Should I stop being his friend?

Your "friend" listening to Justin Bieber is enough of a reason to cut all ties, yes.

I'll make sure to tell her that next time I see her.

EDIT: I made several grammar mistakes describing her as him in the original post. I don't know what I (err.. I mean, "my friend") was thinking.

using the gift service? when my bird bought me my kindle, she tied it to my account instead of hers, without having to deregister it.

    try contacting the customer service.

Hmmm, do women watch gay pron?????? :-?

I had a girl-friend[friend-friend] who had a large collection of pron, and I believe it's safe to say she was/is addicted to it. But I don't recall her ever having any gay pron. Hmmmm, I think I'll have to ask her the next time I see her ( Or not... And why do you keep spelling pron as pron? -Ed* )

( *ARGH! And now you've got me doing it too! -Ed )

reminds me of that well known yahoo question.

'I'm concerned that my son has a secret girlfriend?
My 17 year old son has been very secretive with me lately, recently he has started to refuse to go to church with the family and tonight when I was going through his room I found a magazine with naked men in it. He obviously has a girlfriend that he is hiding from me that brought that magazine into my home and I am afraid they are having intercourse and I am greatly concerned that he is going to get her pregnant
What should I do about this?'

    :p

And what answer did you give his mother?

    (I'm all ears!)

I guess I'm just paranoid about scAmazon. I'd be surprised if they did anything for free without there being some kind of wheezemongery involved.

It's quite cunning on their part really. Primarily it gives them a "value add" over buying CDs somewhere else, like say HMV. If you're using the digital versions a lot, you might be inclined to buy from Amazon rather than going elsewhere even if it were a bit cheaper.

Secondly, you get some "free" storage, but then have to pay for more. And all this music is sat on their servers anyway. So any of your storage, whether paid for or free, you use up with Amazon music isn't really costing them anything it wouldn't anyway. In fact, if you reach the point where you're paying for Amazon storage to store MP3s, you are really subsidising the cost of them storing it for others.

tbh i doubt generally you find cds any cheaper than amazon, thats why i use em anyway, getting an online mp3 version aswell is just the icing on the cake, specially as in future when i buy one i can hear the mp3 version instantly before the cd arrives :D

on a side note, i wonder how itunes will react, obviously they dont seel physical product so cant do the same
drop the price of mp3s maybe?

An interesting move. I already subscribe to the Amazon cloud service to share and back up my music and now I've had four years worth of music from CDs that I bought for other people for Christmas added to my account. ;)

Mostly true, although there have been occasions when it isn't, usually during sales and so on.

brilliant, so rather than get out of my chair walk across the room and pick up my John Lee Hooker collection CD, I just logged into Amazon, realised I forgot my password, reset my password, logged in online, checked my junk folder, logged into Amazon properly, read a load of terms and conditions, got into the cloud player, ticked the download CD, installed the Amazon downloader, rebooted my computer, logged in again, changed my admin regulations for the downloader, and in no time at all I had the songs on my computer, and I didn't even have to get out of my chair :)

Thanks to the magic of the intar-t00bz I've now got Portishead "Third", which I bought five years ago, played once, decided I didn't like it much and ebayed it.

If I download it even though I don't own it any more, does that make me a pirate?

nothing like 11hz quality vs 44.1 cd huh ? your folks don't miss the phone bill though :) .. did you tap out the number when they put a phone lock on ?

I do like how some folks are music "deniers" .. reminds me of years ago, I was at a friends house visitin (I was playing paperboy that just came out , first time I saw cyclone) .. and his mum was babysitting another younger kid.. and she called the other kid to go watch knightrider.... and my friend says "oh I don't watch that".... next thing ya hear "james.. are you going to watch knightrider as well" hehe

OK I won't tell anyone. Might revisit it anyway, although it's probably a lot easier to type "portishead third mediafire rar" than use Amazon's cloud thingy.
