payback theatrical VS payback Straight Up - which first? (no spoilers)
please, try to avoid any spoilers (if possible) when you read this and feel to answer anything related to the movies... thank you! ;)
if you've seen the movie payback (mel gibson) - there are two absolutely different versions out there... the director's cut - named "Straight Up" in this case is not just some prolonged version, but completely re-cut edit and with different color grading, making it whole different story.
if you've seen them both - what's your advice: which should I watch first?
got a hunch seeing one makes the other less compelling - but I may be wrong.
but anyway, if there's possibility to compare the two, I'd better start off with the 'more correct' version and just then the 'rest'.
which I think should be the director's cut.
any ideas to prove me right or wrong?

It recieved a lot of good reviews from the critics and loads of hype, massive posters everywhere
dunno about the new cut
hm, that might be the legit reason to make it the other way 'round - whole new film from a scratch... as D.C.
Doesn't really answer the original question though, sorry.
couldn't find any more helpful clues and sources, so decided to follow my rule set long time ago, mostly in cases of watching remakes - to enjoy them in chronological order - as they were made... might not always be a good choice, but helps to relive it in a way as everybody had a chance to before.
so first one - theatrical version is GOOD. didn't mind "boringness" slenkar mentioned, it surely has a kinda slow pacing, but it's just the way the noir movie could be. I liked it.
also the chrome blue, cool grading suits perfectly and mel gibson's voice over leaves you without any doubt it's heavy NOIR movie - real Max Payne I dare to say!
on the other hand, I may have made mistake not to wait a little longer for the other version to be watched... it came on my table the other day right after the first one,
so it wasn't that surprising to me and didn't work that much as the first one.
it's not bad, but now I think the first one was more intense... that's why I chose to put an entry to a poll for others to make their minds if you consider to watch those two in a future.
