I found a can of lager in the fridge that is a month out of date, would it be ok to drink? (I wondered why the off license was selling them off cheap!)

yeah they usually have a few months taken off the true date, just to be safe.

It's in a can, that stuff lasts longer than nuclear waste. Drink it.

bottled beer opposed to tins normally lasts longer when it's out of date.

depends how it's been kept also temp wise. :)

Just drink it - I'll get my scythe just in case :)

Consider..... They put a best before date on water, that has been round for millions of years.

I have some bottles of beer that were made before they even put best before dates on stuff and they say it will mature with age, in my case its been maturing for 30 years or so but I would be quite happy to drink it, it will still be better than fresh Carlsburg.

A month? I've drunk bottled beer that's been sat on the shelf of a pub for a year past its date without ill effect. It's refilling plastic water bottles from coolers you want to avoid.

You big girl's blouse! Best before dates are just a guideline. My dad was a pharmacist and often used to give me medicine that was a year or two out of date and it never affected me... much. He tended to check the date after I'd taken it and in fairness he'd often throw the packet or bottle away afterwards saying something like "I wouldn't have any more of that if I were you."

Me and a neibour found a previous tennants 'stash' of beer on the compound. problem was it was over a year out of date. Being completely balanced and not in the least suffering from a illness we decided to drink the stash anyway.

Tasted a little diffrent but drinkable - acheved the same result as in-date beer and we got drunk for free. :D

The only out of date beer you should never drink is Schlitz, that stuff gives you the Gary's even if it's in date, so imagine how much your arse explodes the next day when it's a bit ropey

    Trust me I'm a pro :D

I did see a documentary about Lager and apparently the word Lager is German for Stored. It is called this because it is left for a month in the chamber to mature but all the major Lager brewers only store it for a few days so they can produce more Lager per brewery. It should therefore be just past the expiry date.

Unless you bought it in Belgium, Stella doesn't have an in-date.

I have a packet of strepsls in my desk at work that are best before 2001.

The stronger the drink, the less likely it is to go off. Spirits (40%+ ABV) and wine (10-15%) don't even have a best before date. If it's lager and it's cold enough I probably wouldn't even notice anyway, it all tastes the same to me.

yeah prob - I've had some Trappist and Bavarian beers which were months (forget how many by at least 3 prob 6) out of date - no ill effects, the trappist ones were lovely though the german one did seem to lack a tiny bit of flavour

I'm only shocked to learn that beer can be in your house long enough for the best before date to expire.
