New game: Janosik
I have a pleasure to announce my new game: Janosik
In case if you wondered, Janosik (spelled Yanoseek in English) is a mountain folk hero, very popular in Poland and Slovakia even today. He was a highwayman a bit similar to Robin Hood or Spanish bandoleros. Taking from the rich, giving away to the poor, loved by locals, you know the rest ;)
As for the game, the plot isn't very original, he has to rescue his girlfriend, kidnapped and kept in the dungeons by an evil voivode.
The game is a platformer where you have to complete 3 levels by going from left to right, avoiding and killing enemies.
Janosik is armed with his ciupaga - a combination of mountain walking stick and an axe. He can use it to fight angry bears and haiduks - the voivode's henchmen.
Every other enemy encountered by Janosik must be avoided by jumping over it or by other means.
There are also platforms which you can stand on but be careful, while they move, you must move with them.
There is a pattern in enemy movement at each screen, the key to complete this game is to learn this pattern and wait for a proper moment
Here are some screenshots:

The game was inspired by the Polish game with the same name written in the early 90ties for Atari 8-Bit and Amiga.

I took the idea from them but the code, level design and 90% of graphics are mine. The rest of graphics is conversion from Atari. The music is taken from the web, it was written by some Alex Heather. Thanks friend, whoever you are :)
Some comparison:

The game controls are
O - left
P - right
Q - jump
Space - attack
Z - pause (press Space to unpause)
X - restart
Playing with Kempston or Sinclair Joystick is also possible
The game participated in Polish game compo at Wapniak 2013 party (it ended today :) )as an only Spectrum game, fighting against some Atari 8-bit games. I can proudly announce that it won the 1st place in the compo :)
Have fun!

I'll play it in a bit :)
This game is too hard. I do not know when I can use Ciupaga and where it is better to jump. I wonder also why you did not used the fantastic soundtrack from the TV-Series.

But anyway, I like that game...
So what's your next game? "Kapitan Kloss"? ("Stawka wieksza niz zycie")... ;)
Also now I know: Ciupaga kills only soldiers and Teddys, but bot the wolves. But the timing is still essential.

didn't think the platform on screen 6 was that bad after a few goes... screen after with the dogs is nails though!
thanks for including an English language option as well...
Hehe and very popular in Poland too. There was even some attempt in history to claim him Polish ;)
This is a good game for mapping. I hope that you'll like it Pavel.

Where did the AY music come from? It sounds very familiar to me... like an old 80s tune or something?
Actually you can wait at the left screen edge for the proper moment. They won't kill you but turn back at the last moment instead ;)
And they are wolves not dogs.
Although the same sprite is used later in village level and they are dogs that time
I may consider it in the future ;) Misja is another Polish cult game on 8-bit Atari.
There is another Polish game that I ported from Atari to Spectrum. It's Artefakt Przodk?w on Atari and Heritage on Spectrum:

Actually I've just downloaded it from the web
And yes, I liked it too. :)
It's one of thousands of modules created for Spectrum in Russia in the 90ties.
It is called Dark Forest and was done by some guy with the nick "Alex Heather". I don't know more about it.
Thanks,
By the way, if you wanted to do a trd. version, the game isn't synchronized for Pentagon and some sprite parts like legs may flicker sometimes on this model.
If you are interested, I could publish the source code so you could make adjustments.

it has a certain "another go" quality.
Spectrum kicking assess. :D
one minor gripe (and I don't think it's intentional in the game) - the yellow moving platform thingys are twice as big as they should be. you fall off as soon as you step on the left hand side of one, only their right side is ok to stand on. so it's pretty decieving
Good, good job!
It moves smoothly and you can kill things :D Also nice plaform touch.
Only criticism is that the axe animation to kill could be quite improved, but its a minor thing ;)
I will have to play it more deeply to make a deeper analysis as well! :)
I must confess I was hoping for a Rastan style axe swing so was a bit disappointed to see Janosik's puny prod. But that was a small problem because I couldn't stop playing.
Played it to the end (with cheats). Most enjoyable.
However...
...At the risk of appearing completely inept after reading the other posts on here...
...How the @%^&* do you get past the 5th screen? :-o:-o
I know you can jump across and wait on the left hand side of the 'other' side.
But how do you get past the wolves? Do you have to jump between them, or jump over them both?
I've tried about 100 times, but just can't manage it. I can get to the screen with all my lives (as you can see from the screenshot), but then lose them all...
Old school difficulty here. Will play it again some time later.
Will likely use some snapshots to finish the game. My temporary computer slows down even with the game on the emulator so twitching games are hard to play for now.

yeah jump over to the other side, stay where you land, jump over one coming towards you then you should have just enough room to jump over t'other. it's not difficult at all so perhaps you've encountered a bug?
I really liked the game, the movement is very smooth and precise.
@Morkin did you get past that screen in the end?
