Snooker manager

edited October 2013 in Games
So I seem to have a copy of this great game, so good in fact that they could not give it away.

http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekid.cgi?id=0004605

YS had 250 copies and a 6-foot snooker table, they apparently had less than 50 people enter the competition. Unsurprisingly it appears Image software never did release Tennis Manager, Superquiz or Snooker Manager II. Pitty.

I reckon that makes my copy mega rare, any offers? I could offer to wipe the tape before I post it to you?

Any other best avoided, over promoted gems in the archive?

    4 years of production?! lol

love how one of the features of the game they thought worth pointing out was "illness"

sure I've played this, can't even remember it though

It's like all those football management games: Injuries, Leading Goal Scorer, League Tables, Fixture List.

Really? In a football game? Unbelievable!

Heh, I'm tempted to give it a go! Anyone played it?

The author's next release looks like Telly Addicts in home computer form, I wonder if he hoped to get the license:

I've been playing this for half an hour now.

4 years????????????????????????????? The author must have had a lot of sabbaticals. Unless he spent the first three learning BASIC.

It does however, for me at least, capture the sheer excitement of the sport.

    say no more

me and Graz (well mostly Graz) had a partially completed management called Beekeeper Manager, I can't find his screenshots anywhere but it was clearly on course to be the most exciting and gosh darn dangerous management game ever. Probably.

  • So are you still working on it?

nah I think Graz has put it on the back burner indefinitely. No chance of me finishing it, my main contribution was to say 'ooh that looks good'...

Did the competition run before or after the same magazine reviewed the game? Any game described as you'd better press BREAK and load something else probably will not attract too many into the competition, only those who consider a game for free is a game for free even when it is rubbish.

I played Snooker Manager for most of yesterday, well when I say play I mean I had an emulator up and every 10 minutes went through the practice menu and chose something to practise before starting the next match.

I'm almost tempted to press break myself, and find out exactly what it spends most of its time doing. My guess is it has a huge FOR loop in there somewhere (if this isn't BASIC then someone is writing some impressively slow ASM) that is calculating every single shot including angles, whilst amazingly returning a completely random looking result out of the other end.

    My final review....

    "FOUR YEARS?????????????????????????????????"

So how does Snooker Manager stand vs Snooker Management or I suppose also Snooker Masters?
  • edited October 2013
Notably neither of those received any promotion it seems
