I'm torn over this. Of course I'd like to see it if it did actually exist but, in a way, it's far more exciting as the mystery it is. The fact that there's the exit link in Underwurlde and the box art just makes it even more tantalising.

I'm sure Tim and Chris Stamper just aren't bothered (if they even know about any interest in the first place). They certainly don't need the money or the publicity. I'm sure if they do know about people still talking about it Tim Stamper would just smile and keep schtum.

imagine if it was found and it was rubbish.

In fact, imagine if it was anything other than revolutionary (for the time).

The early Ultimate games were gold standard and often quantum leaps in what we considered the spectrum capable of. This obviously diminshed with time as Ultimate games became more evolutionary rather than revolutionary.

By the time of Alien 8, many other publishers were making far better games than Ultimate - including being better technically.

For Mire Mare to truly astound it would have to represent the same magnitude of leap that Knight Lore made from the crowd; and I'm not really sure if that is possible on the spectrum.

Could Mire Mare have become Wizards and Warriors on the NES? The timing is about right, and the early descriptions of the game fit. It wouldn't surprise me.

    Yes... Sounds about right!

That sounds like a good theory. I'll ask Chris Stamper next time I see him in the barbers.

it looks like, at least game design was complete. link: http://web.archive.org/web/19990209155351/www.rareware.com/retro/limbo/

Even though actual coding may not be completed, we are all eagerly waiting for the game, based on this (yet unknown) original design.

I have to say the Stampers do come across as being obtuse, miserable sods!

Interesting, I wonder if there's any hidden messages in the code. Anyone able to check?

Wizards and Warriors isn't on the speccy though, or is it by another name?

(I do use spud by the way, ace debugger - the ACII feature has been very useful :-))
