The thin blue line
Does anyone else remember this 90's sitcom set in a police station starring Rowan Atkinson, i have all 14 episodes on dvd and even though it's getting old i still find it really funny, the scenes with Inspector Grim are brilliant, especially when he goes into one of his rants. He should have got his own spin off show or the show should have lasted for a couple of more series.

I remember it being ****e!:-x
Second only to that load of old **** that Jasper Carrot was responsible for.
did cross my mind if it would have made a good Blackadder 5 though
dont really watch them much as their is no play all option in the menu which really annoys me when watching a series dvd
which thing ?

detectives wasn't that bad though. he don't care.. he's done alright :) http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-419807/Who-wants-millionaire-I-says-Jasper-Carrot-picks-17m-shows-shares.html
Jasper Carrott turned his hand to business as part-owner of the production company Celador, makers of the internationally successful Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?
In 2004 Celador took legal action against Disney for what it claimed were unpaid profits from Disney?s screening of the programme in the US. At a trial by jury in Los Angeles in June 2010 the jury awarded Celador $269m (?177m) in damages after ruling it failed to receive a fair share of profits.
(He got his share)
In 2006, he and wife Hazel sold their shares in the company for over ?10m as part of a management buyout deal.
The words "all laughing the bank to way the" comes to mind :D
Cracks me up every time. :D
The second series with Mark Addy was even better than the first, shame they cancelled it after only 2 series though
My mum bought me it for Christmas last year and I have watched it a few times already. It kind of reminds me of The Brittas Empire but set in a Police Station!
They both reminded me a lot of Dad's Army; it's the basic sitcom formula of having a group of oddballs led by someone who's blissfully unaware of their own incompetence.
Just like
And of course I'm not including the awful Blackadder Back and Forth in that, which was just utterly, utterly rubbish, and Blackadder series one, which was OK but vastly inferior to the later series. But Blackadder series two to four, plus the two specials (Blackadder's Christmas Carol, and the one with King Charles I) are some of the best comedies ever made.
I've never heard of that, but it doesn't sound good. I hope 1980-20.. didn't mean The Detectives, though, as that was a great program.
One thing I hate is Jasper Carrott's awful TV gameshow Golden Balls, which is exactly the sort of program he'd have ripped apart in his earlier shows/stand up routines. He's such a huge sellout nowadays.

Crop Ready? Is that like a Harvest Festival :D
I remember it but thought it was totally awful.
Blackadder is the only thing of his I've enjoyed....Bean was pony too
I don't think anything will beat Blackadder, i used to enjoy Bean but can't watch it nowadays, it just doesn't seem funny anymore:sad:
Black Adder 1,2,3&4 and Christmas special, all rocked. 1 less so, but that/s fine, it got better.
Back and Forth Through time, bit lame. :-/
Thin Blue Line I liked a lot, Mr.Bean I like too
Bean the movie, not so much.
Not the Nine O Clock News rocked.
Watch the first Mr Bean film (Bean: The Ultimate Disaster Movie, it's called, it's the one set in America), it's hilarious even for people who don't like the TV program. Don't watch the second Mr Bean film, as it's awful (the one where he's on holiday in Europe, I can't remember what it's called, and I can't be bothered to look up it's name, it's that bad).
* Breathes into paper bag * :-o
Agreed. Same with Alas Smith and Jones, though sadly I don't think Atkinson ever had a part in ASAJ throughout it's fairly long run.
Other comedies I'd *really* recommend include;
Bottom,
One Foot in the Grave,
Open All Hours,
Monty Python's Flying Circus (some bits have aged badly, but when it works, it really works,
The League of Gentlemen,
Coupling,
Dear John (UK version),
The Office (UK version),
Steptoe and Son (the last two or three series really, as they were by far the funniest),
Rising Damp,
Mongrels (adult puppet show),
Pets (adult puppet show),
Futurama (cartoon, but funny for adults too),
The Big Bang Theory,
MASH,
Mrs Brown's Boys,
etc.
I'd also recommend Reno 911 it's more of a parody of the show COPS but it's mostly unscripted.
Got the Good Guys DVD for my birthday, looking forward to re-visiting it.
As for The Thin Blue Line, at the time it felt "old-fashioned" - I did enjoy the jokes and Inspector Grimm's rants, but I do cringe at Ben Elton trying to be politically correct with his cast line-up. It's not something I would switch over for, but if it pops up on the schedule I would watch it.
Thats the one fog. Dont get me wrong I like Jasper Carrot but that show just wasnt funny or entertaining.
