Please remind me - what was origin and story of the plastic ZX48K?

I know the info was somewhere on WOS but I can't find it.
My friend found an auction and asked me about this model.

Someone mentions the plastic keyboard was made in Italy. I've seen a few of those before but no one remembers if they were bought with that keyboard already installed or not. I have one.
At least some Spectra were sold with this type of keyboards, according to member RGranada - see this thread: http://www.worldofspectrum.org/forums/showthread.php?t=43214 (post #9)
FWIW
Feel free to help yourself to the Sinclair ZX Spectrum +3 Manual.pdf
So it seems like the keyboard was an add-on from Italy.
I wonder, however, why this ZX has no metal... grill ;) or whatever it's called.
