Spectrum bluetooth keyboard...

Despite my love of kickstarter projects I'm not interested for the simple reason I don't and don't envisage owning either a iPhone or iPad.

Now if they made it more open, for example a generic bluetooth keyboard, then I might be tempted but as I can knock up a perfectly good USB spectrum keyboard for ?20 I don't really see the point and think its very overpriced.

The case is very easy to reproduce with no difficulties, and the electronic gubbins required shouldn't cost much so I find it hard to see where there is any value in a ?50 price tag.

If it's gonna be ?50 that'll bump the price up to about $80-$90 here, add the postage and we're probably talking about $100-$120. I could probably get about 25 real spectrums for that money

B0ll0x to that, I'll stick to SPIN on the PC.

It seems to be a lot of money for a poor quality keyboard that relies on an iPad (which i neither have nor want) to do the donkey work. No ta

    Thats a shame :(
You're missing out of one of this century's modern amazing marvels of technological feat!
Would completely change your way of thinking about how you go about 'computering' in general.
Of course, if you have some kind of Android based "smart"phone or tablet, then you're still missing 75% of the marvel that is iOS hardware.

The GUI is smoother I'll give you that, but iOS doesn't allow emulators
so no speccy or DOS gaming for you.

Just curious, trolling. Would you considder an Android phone or tablet an equal marvel?

I ask this because I prefer Android if only for having removable storage and shared storage easily accessible to all apps and any computer you plug the device into.

Won't be investing in this one. As others have said, I'd rather have a real Speccy.

And as for the thread derailment into Android/iOS argument... A few years ago, Apple probably did have the edge, but now? The cost of Apple products is simply not justified against equally good Android ones. And yes, the way Apple prevent you customising easily, or having removable SD cards puts me off them all the more (I have a Samsung phone, Android tablet, iPod and, through work, an iPad).

Like Fog, i'm not a fan of Elite these days. Anyway, i'm happy with real hardware and when I want to emulate I can do pretty much what I want on an windows or linux based emulator.
  • edited December 2013
Well this has just gone live and there is a note on the live version saying do NOT pledge unless you have an ios device so it looks like all the other previous talk about it being android and windows compatible at some future time was just a load of small spherical objects.

    Definitely count me out then.
The simultaneously released and separately sold Bluetooth ZX Spectrum apps are the only apps which have been customized and optimized to operate with the Bluetooth ZX Spectrum. Each of the app sin this comprehensive catalogue of 100% original, officially licenced, paid-for Bluetooth ZX Spectrum games (and more) is available via a secure App Store environment and offers simple and swift PLUG?N?PLAY access to the Bluetooth ZX Spectrum. The Bluetooth ZX Spectrum apps are the only apps which are guaranteed to operate seamlessly with the Bluetooth ZX Spectrum
So your only going to be able to use it on a very small selection of games with pot luck if it works with anything else. It would be cheaper to buy an original machine and original games than this.

Its a good job there are people like Hedegaard about who are happy to overpay for badly restricted hardware or this would never stand a chance as a kickstarter.

I just bought a Nintendo bluetooth keyboard (20 euros, and it came included a pokemon game :)) with so I don't feel the need to buy another one right now.

But is this a generic bluetooth device or not, or is it because of the complex technical setup that it can only be used with very special software? And if it's a generic bluetooth device, does it support multiple inputs? A keyboard with 40 individually controlled keys could be very useful other than for spectrum emulation (and in that case, I might be interested.)

Alright, alright, we've all had a drink.

Reading the KS bull it would seem that its NOT a generic device and is effectively tied to Elites rewritten bluetooth versions of particular games only. Therefore this is of no use if, for example, you wanted to use it with a word processor because firstly there is no guarantee it will work at all with the program and secondly you would be tied to whatever the keys are mapped to (no mention if shift combinations will result in keywords - I doubt it).

What your buying is really a fancy rubber key joystick tied to a very very limited number of customised games that will only work with ios based kit. It's rather a niche product at this moment in time. I am surprised as a lot of the comments posted before the KS went live said words to the effect of "if it does Andriod at release count me in, otherwise forget it" which has not only been ignored but has positivity been trashed with the message of only order if you run ios on the final KS. I suspect it isn't working as well as a proper keyboard as would have been hoped by most people otherwise there would be no need to tie its use down to a very restricted set of apps of which Elite have total control.

They'll probably call it the iSpeccy. I'm definitely out! Apple sucks. :D

Interesting. Gave it a moment's thought - but nope.

I absolutely refuse to have any dealings with Apple.
  • edited December 2013
I don't mind dealing with Apple but to buy a keyboard just to play games?
(And a limited number of games at that!!)

    No thanks.

Alternatively, although expensive, you could go with -

and get something of a bit more general use.

Looks cool, but rather pointless for me personally - I still have an actual Speccy, and the only reason I'd want Speccy games on my phone or iPad would be to play them on the move. Certainly don't see myself getting an iPad and keyboard out whilst sat on the bus.

Totally pointless because you'll have to buy the emulator and games from Elite as well.
You won't be able to use Jonathan Needles Spectaculator.
