Commando 128k

edited January 2014 in Games
Does anyone know if the 128k version of Commando was a real release or was it just a hack someone did just to add the music in ?

It's a hack, but it has probably the best spectrum AY music.
Rob Hubbard at its best. :)

    Rob Hubbard at its best.

Actually Rob Hubbard didn't create AY tune for the hack ;) As I know it was done by Czech coder and hacker Frantisek Fuka.

He didn't compose the tune too. As Wikipedia claims some Tamayo Kawamoto did it for arcade version.

    Thanks for the info.
Of course, I assumed that he didnt create hack version. ;)
Btw, c64 version is so much better that it looks like a brand new tune in comparison with the arcade original.
Here's what Hubbard says about it:
"There is an interesting story behind Commando. I went down to their [Elite] office and started working on it late at night, and worked on it through the night. I took one listen to the original arcade version and started working on the c64 version. I think they wanted some resemblance to the arcade version, but I just did what I wanted to do. By the time everyone arrived at 8.00am in the morning, I had loaded the main tune on every C64 in the building! I got my cheque and was on a train home by 10.00 am??."

problem being the tune took up a lot of memory and the c64 version is only like 3 levels IRC.. it's far too easy... speccy version is far nearer the arcade one :)

c64 game arne by zeppelin is also by chris butler and is decent also.

does this 128k version have any special new bits, I loved the original 48K version. Additionally there is a Kommando II, but much harder.

Just the music. I wish someone would do the same with R-Type.
