It's not Moriarty. It's Arty Morty.

One of my favourite scenes! An under-appreciated classic is Without A Clue.

Yep, fantastic film, without a doubt. There have been a million Holmes comedies, most of which are rubbish, but to me Without a Clue is definitely the best one. Michael Caine is superb as the incompetent Holmes, and Gandhi, sorry, Ben Kingsley is great as poor, unappreciated Watson.

I watched all three episodes of season three last night...and I have to admit that I feel it's a bit like the emperor's new clothes - everyone says it's good because everyone else thinks so too.

...apparently I wasn't that blinded by it. Really sub-standard for the new series. For me - the only episode of the three, that was watchable, was the last one. They couldn't really hold my attention. That was a long 4? hours.

It's given me the idea to re-watch the Rathbone or Brett ones. And skipping Moffatt's season 4 all together once it arrives. I like both Cumberbatch and Freeman - as actors, but there's no sense in spending all that time just to be annoyed and/or bored by Moffatt's Sherlock.

It is enthralling though, if it was mediocre you would have barely lasted through one episode.

It's not brilliant but not crap

They started showing the 1st season on Swedish public TV the other day, and have just finished watching the 3rd episode (final credits rolling as I write this). I am just not convinced. I like the premise but I found myself thinking the plot and its twists are too far-fetched sometimes. And with sometimes I mean lots of times. Also, I feel Benedict Cumberbatchs acting is missing something or perhaps he was not the best choice for the part. Granted, it might also be my age. I suspect the target audience for this new version is made up by younger folks with fewer expectations and way less knowledge of the literary works and older series.

I really have to put my foot down here, it's called a series in England not a season.

Agreed!! We don't have to lower our standards to that of the USA, we're better than that!

Season 3. Hmm... in comparison to Season 1 & 2, I would say I found it far too loopy bordering on the incoherent. It's almost like they mixed up the Dr Who and Sherlock scripts. In the previous seasons (tips hat at chop983), there was a sense of the diabolical and the stories were serious and believable. Holmes didn't throw up "deductions" out of thin air with no rhyme or reason (his reasoning was explained quickly but smartly). In this season, Holmes and Watson seem to have taken to buffoonery and every single story was outlandish and took a *long* time to get to the point. The final episode was a touch better but only because the shock value was bigger and the acting by the lead characters were brilliant. OTOH, the climatic scene didn't come as a surprise but that was soon forgotten by the next seasons hook right at the end. I hope that means we are returning to a saner and more believable Sherlock.

It might as well be, but someone should then tell those guys at SVT. They use the word "s?song", meaning season. Bastards. We pay 250? year for the TV license and they can't even get that right? :(
