Candy Jam
It would appear that King have impressed more than a few game developers of late by trademarking the word candy. To mark this occasion, a few indie game makers have apparently decided to get together and celebrate this glorious confectionery revolution by writing games with the candy in the title. A sagacious ruse with, alas, one fatal flaw: until yesterday there were no ZX Spectrum games among the completed works on display.
Fortunately, this situation has now been remedied by the inclusion of a little piece of 48K bedroomware (I do hate the term homebrew) knocked up in a couple of hours based on a minigame from the forthcoming Gamex 2. It's entitled Candy Fruit Attack and you'll all be delighted to hear that the word candy is entirely gratuitous.
All can now thrill to the wonders of rows of apples and plums firing dots at your little cyan craft at the bottom of the screen and marvel at the simplistic sound effects. Move left! Move right! Fire your laser cannon! Wait for the bullet to travel to the top of the screen before firing again! It's a thrilling rollercoaster ride you'll never be able to forget, no matter how hard you try. Vodka might help.
To make the game even more challenging it has been cunningly hidden in a bewildering array of 352 other games (and counting) on the Candy Jam site. For the hard of counting, that's even more games than The Mojon Twins released on their last covertape.
Wander over here and then wonder why you bothered:

Right, that's the announcement over with. Have fun and I'll be in the sandpit in the back garden if anyone needs me. Has anyone seen my bucket?

Tempted to have a go myself....Edge Candy perhaps.
Seems like some cheeky chappy has done a game called Candy's Edge.....Intentional? Probably?
If only I could get JSWED working properly what would be better than using a borrowed game to infringe even more (pseudo) copyrights! I can see screens names now "Crushing the Candies EDGE!!!", King C**nts Candy".....oh my let me do create stuff you evil bastard PC
It plays quite nicely so I'm polishing it up with loads of tiny levels.
King clearly bitten off more than they can chew.
"The Candy's Edge"?
BTW that's an awesome initiative, congratulations to all participants!!!
EDIT: I wrote this reply before I saw post #3 above, ops!

Maybe have the player running around as Candy, with the Candy Poop Kings chasing and capturing, and then bending Candy over and ****** her, put the names of the directors above the sprites of the Kings to show how ****** ****** they are. rotters.
(Played on 48K with Saga keyboard.. :-D)
Indeed (keys a bit weird for me tho), also exciting that Gamex2 is on the way.
Please can I have your Saga keyboard? I don't own one
A sequel to my favourite Jonathan Cauldwell game? Best indirect announcement ever! :D
Oh and I'll check out the Candy game too... :)
I'm half-tempted to try to trademark the word "the", just to see how far I could get..
You can have it if I break it... :-D
I had to trawl eBay for a while before I got one.
That's actually a pretty good idea.
It's likely to fail, but just trying to do it (and perhaps writing satirical press releases about it) could be a great way to bring attention to this problem.
Gamex 2 has been announced in several places, just not here on WoS. Twitter, my website, OldSchool Gaming... I've been posting development screenshots over on Facebook. Two weeks in, seven games are written and it's looking promising so far.
